I hope all our NZ friends are doing alright. The world is small enough without anyone I know getting stabbed.

Meanwhile in my home state, the school shootings are already firing up again, no pun intended. It's one of the more pronounced downsides of this glorious country. At the very least, it makes me hesitate to send any future kids of mine to a public school. I'll just have to pay the 20 odd thousand dollars a year for a private school's access to extra metal detectors, burly rent-a-cops, ad an actually funded/equipped/trained counseling department. But even that's no guarantee of anything when literally everyone I know is packing heat and it feels like the whole country is grinding its teeth in some form of rage.

Oh America, you brainless twit, what are we doing to ourselves?

I just hope our twilight does not preclude a long and scary night, is all. Peace is desireable to everyone. I pray we remember that.

If one's peace is predicated on genocide, it ain't peace.

Moving on Wednesday! No more living alone during lockdown, will have great flatmates with an adorable dog, be in the middle of the city for when everything opens up again and will save a tonne of money. That last part has reinvigorated my interest in EDH somewhat; not enough to build new decks entirely, but enough to make sweeping change to a few so they'll play differently. I was considering moving to proxying, but I've got a good enough selection of decks to scratch whatever itch and selling off a collection seems like a hassle.

Been on a Fire Emblem kick lately. Emulating Sacred Stones right now. Couple different "runs" in a row now I've had Joshua double crit kill Caellach towards the end. Beautiful and beautifully karmic. And of course you gotta have Cormag wipe out Valter.

Bought FE: Three Houses today, gonna probably try to pick up that new OLED N. Switch coming out soon.

Finished my first run of HL:Alyx last weekend. Very fun game, and fairly replayable. I started a very easy run with commentary on so I could listen to all that and work on a particular achievement (I'm also trying to do 100% of a resource you collect during the game), but I might also do a hard run eventually.

I just wish audio wouldn't cut out at random times (I'm using a Rift and this is the only game I've played through SteamVR that the Rift's audio device just stops), but it seems to happen less if I start playing from a fresh boot of the machine instead of restoring from sleep, and if it does happen I can just pause and unplug/plug the headset's USB end.

Man, I love Fire Emblem. I'm currently banging my head off of Fire Emblem Fates: Conquest in Lunatic Mode. It's at least as hard as HHM in FE7 and it suuuuucks to get halfway through the game, realize you've slightly mismanaged experience, and have to start over because the endgame is now impossible.

But FE8, that's where I started. I remember my sister got it for Christmas and hated the turn-based combat, so she never played it. Then, one fateful vacation, I ask to borrow it for entertainment during the long drive. I got so wrapped up in the melodrama plot and the awesome crit animations that I barely did anything beside mash gameboy buttons the whole week we were at the beach. From that point on, Fire Emblem's been my favorite video game series, bar none. Gerik specifically in FE8 is my boy, give him Audhulma and watch him solo chapter 20 with ease. Close second is Dozla, who sucks ass statistically, but has such a wholesome "Dad Goals" vibe that I can't ever bench him.

Hell yeah brother.

FE7, I remember getting some amount of the way through Hector's mode, don't think I really touched hard mode in that game. My entry to the series, not sure I'll replay it. We'll see. Definitely hit a bit harder emotionally, with NPCs close to characters dying, and malicious deception and betrayal.

FE8 is up there as one of the better ones in my eyes. I like the choices of promotion and the ability to actually grind a bit. Granted, makes the game super easy, and really only a couple Chapters are truly challenging, while the rest can generally be breezed through w/o grinding. Gerik's a solid unit, never used Dozla personally, but fair enough on the dad energy lol.

Played through FE9 Path of Radiance up to the point where Jill confronts her father, I believe? I should really pick that one up again and get through it. Balls to the sequel being on the Wii though. :cussing: Don't suppose it's on the digital Switch store?

Fire Emblem in the switch was absolutely dope, my intro to the franchise, played the living crap out of it :)

Currently playin Wrath of the Righteous (new Owlcat Pathfinder game) but can't quite get into it because literally all I can think about is crap I am coding for work.

I wrote a prototype webhook router to move webhook handling out of our monolith and into a microservice (that is aware of all our lower tier environments), all ASGI with Python/FastAPI/SQLModel on SQLite, using AIOHTTP to make its http requests, it's ridiculously fast and cool as heck. Beyond stoked to be working somewhere I am excited to work with people who get things done on the hours scale instead of the weeks scale.

I don't often get to chime in on these but during child nap times my wife and I've been playing Divinity: Original Sin 2. Its a turn based RPG that you can play co op. This is probably our 5th or 6th time through. Its very good, and super deep on strategy, play options, character development and creation, combat options and story outcomes. We play it on ps4 but I know its also on switch, iOs and PC and from what I've heard its stellar on each platform.

Its slow going this time around on account of time restriction but still incredibly enjoyable. Not at all the usual type of game I'd be into but its also one of the best of its kind.

So I've been in the hospital since last Tuesday due to asthma, pneumonia, and MRSA. I should be out tomorrow afternoon. For most of my stay, I wasn't able to use my phone or Chromebook due to not being able to charge them.

Yeah, Hermes_, hope you recover with alacrity. I've had msra and pneumonia before (not concurrently/consecutively, thank Allah) and oooh boy are they bad. Can't imagine what it's like, but you're tougher than me for bearing through it.

On another note, I finally started watching the infamous Ghost Stories English dub and man, it's everything I dreamed it would be. I'm on episode 9, but it might honestly and unironically knock off Cowboy Bebob as the best anime I've ever seen. It's like 4 jokes/10 seconds and I haven't laughed this much in ages. Shame that just like bebop, there's only the one season.

Yeah, I'm not mad either. Worldfire is a weird flex though, especially when Biorhythm already exists in the format.

This isn't really the villain I wanted hamstrung either to be honest.

When they were discussing why Worldfire was unbanned while other expensive, game-dominating effects weren't, interaction was one of the key points they brought up. Ease of execution is also critical. There's no doubt that an 8 mana sorcery is much harder to interact with, and also much easier to pull off, than paying 11 mana for the same effect via a tap ability on a creature that doesn't have haste, which also requires at least 6 power from other creatures or anthems, etc. to be present on your board.

To paraphrase the description for my Grothama deck: "I love Darksteel Colossus Biorhythm, but 11 mana is just so much, even for a deck with mana doublers :("
(Sure it's not an apples-to-apples comparison, but you get the idea. Also I'm starting to go on-topic in the off-topic thread  ).

Yeah I mean I've no dog in the fight myself, it just seems relatively comparable. Its certainly nice to have options for more game ending spells anyway.

I was going into work Mon morning (@00:30 roughly, technically morning lol) and I hit a deer, so that's been some fun paperwork/logistics/ etc this week.

No damage to my person, thankfully. Just my poor car, and that poor bleeping deer.
