When I had my friend/editor read over my manuscript I realized that I've been doing quotes wrong my entire life. I always thought that when you interject a dialogue tag, it was supposed to always use a comma in front and behind, like so:

"Hello," he said, "I am a crab."

But apparently that's only true if the dialogue is part of the same sentence. If it's two separate sentences, there's a period after the dialogue tag, like so:

"I love crabs," she said. "Would you like to come back to my place?"

News to me.

Anyway, that took forever to go through and change for the entire 150K word book =/ and yes I know 150K words is too bloody long.

So I've started watch Schitt's Creek, and while I have been enjoying it (though I am only three episodes in), I have to say it is really weird watching it because of Eugene Levy's character. From the way he acts, to the way he dresses, to the way he talks, its like they just copied my uncle and threw him in a TV show.

Has this ever happen to anyone else where you are watching something and one of the characters in the show is basically a carbon copy of someone you know?

Hope you enjoy it. I think it got a lot stronger as the years went by!
Also that's hilarious.
I had a relative that constantly made me think of Jabba the Hutt. I wasn't fond of him, to say the least. He matched Jabba on personality, sexism and weight (at one time surpassing 800 lbs). When I pointed this out to someone they 100% agreed with me too.
What's crazy is that I am dead serious. He was awful.

Agents don't cost anything upfront, they take a percentage of the money they earn you.

On the downside, that means they only take stuff they think they can sell, so it's super competitive.

Just wanted to randomly say that I've been rereading the Lord of the Rings, and I was quite surprised to find a line in the first book about Gandalf using a "counter-spell". Certainly made me smile to think Gandalf was playing control long before MTG was invented. Especially humorous when you consider that the enemies the fellowship were facing in that segment would probably be best represented as a Mono Red Goblins/Orcs deck splashing black for the sweet Mythic Rare Balrog lol.

Coco was very hard at points since Coco looked a lot like my grandmother and my grandmother acted a lot like the character when she got close to passing.

Gandalf is pretty Azorius (in the books). In the films he absorbed Radagast and therefore had a lot more green.
I want to reread everything, but no time.

Gandalf absorbed Radagast? I must have been more stoned than I thought when I watched those movies because I do not remember this.

Given Radagast's depiction in the hobbit movies (or at least the first one, the only I actually suffered through. The breakfast scene was lovely but then you can turn it off) I'm kinda glad they made him Sir Not Appearing In This Film for LOTR

2. Does anyone have problems with the conquistador flavour of Legion's Landing // Adanto, the First Fort? It's dodgy to me. I'm making a fairly low cmc Soul Sister-ish w/g deck and wanna run the card alongside Ardenvale and Kjeldoran Outpost (so as to be able to activate on command Soul Warden, Innkeeper and the like) but a bunch of Ixalan block cards leave a bad taste in my mouth. Am I alone on this one?

Not a fan of them because they're conquistadors and the real conquistadors did terrible things? It doesn't leave a bad taste in my mouth particularly. They're literally all evil monsters barely able to keep their insatiable greed/hunger in check. That seems to be a blaring condemnation of the real conquistadors actions in my eyes. I similarly don't mind pirate references despite the fact that pirates were not good people either. I don't have any personal emotional ties to the people the conquistadors destroyed though. Your mileage may vary.

Brings up an interesting question for me though. By this logic I should be ok with them printing off brand demon nazis or some such. Which is weird to say, but I think I would be assuming the setting made any sense?

I enjoy studying history quite a lot, even the terrible parts.

They're not demons, but the BG Elves from Lorwyn fit that description.

Well main role for Radagast was getting the Eagles involved in Gandalf's rescue, and in the film they had gandalf recruit the eagles himself using a moth messenger. though i suppose eagles are white in mtg.

Been thinking on this
I think WOTC recognized them as being historically evil, which is why they are pretty villainy vampires. Vampires should be evil, right?
But does that make it right to make conquistador cards? Just as we don't want nazi cards, I imagine many people do not want to see conquistadors. Especially that they have a Spanish flavouring to them.
Another reason to not return to Ixalan..

As a Mexican-American* Ixalan in an interesting topic. As you said having the vampires as parasites who drain away resources and such works with how many conquistadors and colonists would treat the places they colonized and is a condemning look. They also worked in that the merfolk and humans of Ixalan where able to drive back the vampires and where on more equal footing, the vampires where more focused on getting the golden city than colonizing and a big story moment is the original vampire nun returning and out right saying colonizing wasn't part of her teachings.

That said I think they did okay with the first Ixalan story but if not handled right elements of Ixalan could come off in bad tastes and will depend on how approach each story.

*My option is my own and I don't speak for every Latin person nor can I speak on how the Aztec or other naive people feel.

As a person descended from European Jews, I can say with 100% certainty that I would hate to see a plane with 'nazi demons'. Even if I know demons are evil, I just don't want to own cardboard with that kind of depiction.
This was a reason why I never wanted to see UB - Indiana Jones.
I understand your feeling of not wanting to represent conquistadors, even as evil monsters. If I were you, I would be very much outspoken in my hatred of Ixalan.
The vampires could have been flavoured simply as explorers.

My two cents on this topic is a bit conflicted.

On the one hand, I am of Iberian descent so it's cool to see the historical influence Ixalan and Elenda had, along with the setting, and the pirates as well. "Hey, my country of heritage had a large part in shaping that part of history, that MtG drew from for this block! That's cool."

On the other hand, the conquistadors colonizing Latin America and all the evils of said colonization is horrific and should not be celebrated. The points about the differing goals of real life and Ixalan are minor good points to recognize though.

Last century was, obviously, last century so the historical sting of those memories is much more fresh. To an extent, the conquistadors could have less of a historical sting to those memories by being a few hundred years ago. [sigh] A difficult conversation with no easy answers.

Cracked Ebondeath, Dracolich, my #1 most desired card in AFR, first pack of the draft last night.

In pack 2 I got passed Xanathar, Guild Kingpin, Vorpal Sword, and Orcus, Prince of Undeath. I even had 3x dragon's fire with 2 5-power dragons in the deck.

So that's probably one of the most insane decks I've had in a while…

I managed to finish a new album, with yours truly responsible for almost everything that isn't the vocals. If you don't mind dissonance mixed into groovy, down-tuned guitars, feel free to give it a spin (or better yet, a free download) on Bandcamp.

The process of getting this one done was honestly quite challenging. Last time I put out music, I didn't pay enough attention to the production job and the end result sounded so poor that it undermined the quality of the material. Now I spent almost 10x as long mixing the thing as I did recording it, and I crowdsourced opinions on how the stuff sounds along the way to try to make it stick the landing. @pokken revealed himself to be musically inclined early in the process, so I shipped him some work-in-progress versions and he helped me position the vocals better. Thanks man!
