[RPG] Adventures in Nocova - (Sign-Ups/Starting Out)
WHAT THIS IS: A vaguely D&D-esque open world roleplaying game where you start as individuals who all happen upon the same event in the same place, and can move freely from there as you wish. You can go exploring, go on quests, and do whatever your imagination and my imagination allow in an open world that I'm basically making up as we go along.
HOW TO PLAY: I tell you a story of what's happening to you that always leads to a challenge/mission/goal of some kind, you design a card to get through it, and I rate the card on a 1-10 scale and based on the result decide how successful you are in your attempt. Then we repeat that, going back and forth, with you telling me what you do and me telling you what happens. Sometimes there might need to be some back and forth without a card challenge, but usually there will be.
PLAYER RESPONSIBILITiES: You'll have to keep track of some stuff so I don't have to, such as inventory, active quests, and your player character. Also, your posts should, in general, be formatted as follows: 1) Your description of your attempted action, 2) Your card representing that action, 3) In a spoiler or a box or something, your character/inventory/info
TO SIGN UP: Please post a card that will represent your avatar through the game. It must meet the following criteria EXACTLY and not be crazy overpowered (I will let you know if I think it is). You can sign up even once the game has started, it will just take some doing for me to work you into any existing lore.
Your character must be:
A legendary creature with a non-profane name.
Not tied to an existing/specific plane.
Exactly two colors and not hybrid.
Have a CMC of exactly 3
Rare (and appropriately powerful).
Have total power and toughness no greater than 6.
Have no more than one keyword and one non-keyword ability.
It would be a good idea, possibly, to not choose the same two colors as someone who has posted before you, but do keep in mind that your choices may limit the colors of mana you have access to in the beginning of the game and maybe beyond.

EVERYONE:
Logistical Notes: I decided how I want the mana/spell system to work. Please include in all of your posts your current mana base and rarity restrictions. Those are "Mana Base: 1XY" where X and Y are your colors, and Rarity: "Common/Uncommon". Your mana resets each round of the game, and you don't HAVE to spend colored mana as though it were mana of that color. Let me know if this is confusing, and yes, I plan to have it open up/get better as you progress.
Actual Story: For one reason or another, you have each decided to attend the city of Clova's annual harvest festival. The cobblestone roads and thatched-roofed buildings of a mid-sized town are bustling with revelers and tourists alike, eating to their hearts' content, singing merry songs, and getting into all sorts of debauchery. You are all dispersed among the crowd of this place, or perhaps lurking in the shadows or even the sewers if that is more your style, especially the abominable horrors among you.
The mayor of the town takes the stage to give his speech bringing the festival to an official close. Things begin well enough, until you begin to hear screams in the distance that sound less like partying and more like terror. Squinting onward toward the port and the coast, you see a giant tsunami wave beginning to approach the city, threatening to wash it all away. It threatens to engulf the town itself. Your only option is to escape, and you'll never make it on foot.
Challenge: Get out of there FAST
Restriction: Must be an instant or sorcery.
Bonus (+1 to score): Your card is a hybrid of one of your colors and one color that isn't yours.
Let me know if there are any questions, and please remember to post a little sentence or paragraph describing your actions along with your card.

Action: Erigos finds the fastest-looking horse it can, creates a phantasmal copy of it, and rides into the sunset (or whatever appropriate direction there is). Normal people are a bit too.... substantial to ride an illusion, but that's not really a problem for Erigos.

Doorwarp
Sorcery (C)
As an additional cost to play Doorwarp, tap an untapped creature you control.
Creatures you control gain haste and may not be blocked except by walls until end of turn.
With the right invitation, the threshold of any doorway may connect to any other.
Tivauri is entertaining a crowd of like-minded ruffians and thieves with tales of anarchic folklore when the tsunami crests the horizon. Two words into a friendly ear and she's ushered through a stage door, which reacts to her step like a leyline does to a druid's; magic does the rest, and she's half a mile away before the water crashes down. (Maybe she could drag another magickally attuned person through the doorway?)

Jatau came to Clova to visit the pop-up menageries, eager to expand his collection of undead retainers. Unexpectedly, a large tsunami is about to breach the city, and he has few options left. Necromancy isn't exactly a defensive art, the best Jatau can think of is to murder and resurrect enough citizens to create a wall of corpses to protect him, but that would never work. He's only left with one option, a spell taught to him by his former people. A portal spell that would always lead back to the pride. With no other options, he recited the incantation, and felt a golden rush transport him to the last place he wanted to be: the place that vowed to kill him the next time he stepped foot there.

Action: Tlothoss peers up from the storm drain, eyeing the massed surface-dwellers curiously. He hears the oncoming wave rumbling through the pavement before he even sees it, and slithers out, unnoticed in the panic. Digging his claws into the old stone of a cathedral, he scrambles to the top of its spire, surveying the ruin below.

Action: After spending so much time in the mountains, badlands, and other rough, scorched terrain where his favored partners made their home, Ace was happy to return to civilization...and some place cooler. Compliments to the chef for the amazing food, as well - the muscled warrior was so happy he dropped in!
After the speech, the tall male started to look around for a place to stay, givem how late it was into the day. He also needed to get that scorch mark from earlier in the day looked at - a dogfight with a rival dragon he wouldn't soon forget.
After hearing the sound of rushing water, turned around to see a massive wave of water that looked like it was going to annihilate the town. There wouldn't be enough time for him to gather the mana necessary to summon a young dragon to scoop him up, so he did the next best thing.
Red, spectral, batlike wings sprouted from his shoulders as he drew a mana rune in the shape of intertwined dragon's horns underneath him. It radiated a growing amount of heat, which when combined with the increased humidity in the air, let him ride a thermal current safely above and out of the way of the wave.

Jarveric - who was just at the festival to relax, anyhow - was woefully off his guard. But the resourcefulness of a scout never totally leaves, and Jarveric spots an abandoned, broken-down clockwork cart in an alleyway. He struggles to come up with a repair spell, but finds one after all - one that incidentally gives a punch of momentum when it rebuilds a vehicle.

Neat. Hasn't been anything like this in a while. Great way to spend some downtime.
Character: Esayas Brodervick - Esayas is a pudgy, seemingly weak little lawmage, who has developed his formidable skills with magic and social manipulation as a result of his lackluster physique and the bullying he endured as a result. A generally cheerful fellow, he can occasionally go over the line when pursuing his goals. He recently came across a tome of forbidden magic that he has yet to turn in. A collection of mental probes not allowed by even lawmages in his land, he honestly believes for the time being that he can use the magic for good.

Mookie: This is on me for not explaining what I meant by mana base, but that's the mana you have access to each turn, so you wouldn't actually be able to CAST the spell you've designed, but that's my fault for leaving it vague. Now for the card itself, it's fun and feels quite printable at it's current cost, and it gets the bonus, my one wish is that the name or some flavor text justified the token, in addition to your description. Overall, including the bonus, I'd say… 7.5/10. See below for what happens.
folding_music: I like the flavor of what's going on here, and while you get the bonus for hybrid I'm not entirely sure green would ever get access to this full effect. I also wish the escort aspect was more present in the card itself, but I like the design and the story move, so… 7/10. See below for what happens.
slimy trout: A very fun combat trick that shows how you are able to escape! Not a ton more for me to say here, and you get the bonus, so… 9/10. See below for what happens.
Subject16: It's definitely a question as to whether mono-red could get access to this, but they do play around with cards you "own". I like the gist, but wish it had a wee bit more going on so I am going to say 6/10 See below for what happens.
BeneTleilax: I like this card quite a bit and it feels like it could BARELY be printable with that hybrid cost as something that mono-green can do. I also think that power-level wise it could do to be an instant in case you ever want just the pump as a trick. Let's say… 7/10 See below for what happens.
frog child: This is on me for not explaining what I meant by mana base, but that's the mana you have access to each turn, so you wouldn't actually be able to CAST the spell you've designed, but that's my fault for leaving it vague. Now for the card itself, it's hard for me to believe that green is going to get a hasty 2/2 flier, even for a turn. This seems like a card that, while I appreciate you going for the bonus, is meant to be monocolored or gold. Cool effects in general, but misses the mark with the hybrid attempt. 5.5/10 See below for what happens.
Raikou: I suppose that maybe red could get this, but it does seem like a lot for red to give +2/+2 and flying for two at instant speed, along with fire breathing no less. But it's not out of the question, and I like the flavor of what you have going on between the card and the written action. 7/10 See below for what happens.
void: I think that this level of resurrection at that cost is almost certainly rare or would require sacrificing at end of turn. CMC 4 is still quite a bit. I like the flavor of what's going on, but just think the power level is a bit off on this one. 5.5/10. See below for what happens.
kwanyeegor: I like this very much, as it's a cool way to make something like this viable at common, and the hybrid feels more or less workable in these colors. Plus, a fun means of escape. 9/10. See below for what happens.
SORRY TO LUMP PEOPLE TOGETHER, I HAVE LESS TIME THAN EXPECTED. In the future I will try to be more individualized.
SCORE 6.5 OR LESS: Your means of escape goes a little haywire, and while you do make it out in time to escape death, you do not necessarily find yourself safe, having ran/flown/warped to a dark cave system just outside of town, in which you tumbled down and got stuck in a deep chasm of a pool. At the bottom of this "natural well" you sense a few branching paths, the most obvious one being getting yourself back up. You get to choose how to proceed, but to explore, you will need light, and to get up, you will need, well, a way up. No other challenge/restrictions here.
SCORE 7 OR ABOVE: You manage to get free to a safe distance from town along with several other folk who got running before it was too late. Stranded together, you have to wonder, how could this have happened. Nothing like that wave has ever been seen in this part of the continent. There is a mage who is raving about a prophecy, but he seems mad, and getting to the bottom of what he is saying may take some magic to bring him some clarity or perhaps sanity. There is also a thicket in the other direction that would require clearing if you wish to simply depart into the wilds. The choice is yours.
folding_music: I like the flavor of what's going on here, and while you get the bonus for hybrid I'm not entirely sure green would ever get access to this full effect.
