A kind of weird but interesting design. Not sure it's in the right color. It seems more of a red or blue ability than white.

Considering you've put a rather significant downside and no real upside on this creature isn't it unreasonably weak? I would imagine a creature like this having either a significantly higher toughness so it survives going in for the kill on those utility creatures or at least first strike and a higher power.

That said this really doesn't feel right in white. As a quirky representation of some kind of dream fighter, it fits better in blue and black while as a means of fighting tapped utility creatures I would put it in green. As just the ability it must be blocked it also falls into green. While the odd extra blockers ability I feel fits in a black restriction on some kind of more powerful demon.

Edit: it took me a lot of reads to realize it affects both sides of the board. I would now recommend it in green white and still power it up. White to allow tapped creatures to block and green to force creatures to block; though honestly affecting everyone makes this really weird.

Mechanically, I may be the only one who likes this in white - that is one of the colors that punishes tapped creatures, after all - but it works equally well in black. I can imagine a Dauthi version of Freddie Kreuger. I do have to agree on either pumping the toughness or granting first strike to cut down the fragility.

I continuously toned down the original creature, step by step, taking into consideration the repeatable removal potential this can have. It seems I over-corrected. : )

Card of the Day 2020-03-13 >

Dreadspawn {B}{B}{B}
Creature – Spawn (R)
~ enters the battlefield with three +1/+1 counters on it.
At the beginning of each player's upkeep, that player may discard a card. If they do, put a +1/+1 counter on ~. Otherwise, remove a +1/+1 counter from ~ and that player loses 3 life.

Neat!

Spawn alone (and not "Eldrazi Spawn") doesn't have a heck of a lot of meaning - I had to check if Elder Spawn was in fact an Elder or a Spawn, and besides that there's Spawning Pit and that's all. What Elder Spawn appears to be is a fairly transparent ripoff of Lovecraft's Elder Things, which is a little random but Cosmic Horror was also in Legends and a lot of the set's flavor and design was slapdash anyway, mostly because it was originally made as samizdat by a D&D group in a mountain resort.

With that digression out of the way, I like the triggered ability working as a double drawback for you and your opponents in convergent ways. If not for this exercise you were doing, I'm sure it'd be a Horror on the typeline.

Personally I'd add Horror or Nightmare to the typeline, but still keep the Spawn subtype. It is certainly a good card, but not over powered in any way. I like it. Seems fun. Could be a good Delirium, Threshold, and Madness enabler, but they aren't particularly hard to enable as it is.

Edit: I accidentally a letter.

Dreadspawn does feel like it could get a cosmic horror-ish flavor attached to it based on its mechanics, so I like the type line choice. Overall, an interesting card. Granted, I mostly play four-player casual EDH nowadays, so I'm pretty sure I'd drop it and it'd be dead by my turn, but BBB for "Each opponent loses 3 life" seems good.

I like it, and optionally powerful Abyssal Specter. But balanced through potential life loss.

Oh, yeah, I noticed the similarity to Rankle, but the actual inspiration is Thieving Magpie/Abyssal Specter in monocolor. Makes me wonder how much closer to Rankle I would have gotten iterating over this design if I had not recalled the legendary already. : )

I wonder if you could get away with that Specter as a 1BB 2/2.

I wonder at the context of Servant of the Unwavering. Spellshapers on AKH feel okay, given the resource poor nature of the plane and the graveyard theme, but is it more of a MH thing?

Huh. That covers exile and the graveyard, as well as the top card of your library if you have such a card on the board. I wonder if the activated ability could cost less... But I suppose making Food Chain inifinites even easier with this card would be a concern. Ah not so much. Helps if I read first. Does pair beautifully with Spidersilk Armor

That is an incredibly large creature for having a name that means thin or flimsy.

While I personally like that it can't remove all its counters on its own I feel that it will actually be a point of contention for most other players. To not cause such feelings cutting it down to 4/4 with two counters hardly damages the design.

"Sleeze" here is used as a term of venery/collective noun for Sponges.

The idea behind having an odd number of counters here was to make the jump to the first additional card easier e. g. two of these are more than just a sum of their parts.
