Hi, looking for ideas on what mono red has in this format as a mass removal effect. Is Anger of the Gods already our best option here? Or are there other good mono red cards we can use, for the purpose of taking out several small creatures at the same time?

blasphemous act is my favorite, followed by hour of devastation and then chain reaction.

BA is just so darned flexible at basically R - sweep the board, and sometimes do hilarious stuff (e.g. with repercussion).

If you're looking for flexible numbers, comet storm is not bad but requires quite a lot of mana.

pyrohemia can be useful.

And of course the standbys of nevinyrral's disk, oblivion stone and all is dust.

I'm liking hour of devastation, because of it's ability to damage walkers. thanks for the suggestion. :)

oh, sorry I might have not mentioned it.. but posted in the pioneer forums because I needed pioneer legal red sweeper cards. Many of the cards you mentioned are not legal in this format.

3 cmc: sweltering suns or anger of the gods
4 cmc: nothing jumps to mind
5 cmc: hour of devastation
6 cmc: chandra, flamecaller
7 cmc: star of extinction

Star is the closest you're getting to a straight up wipe as its can going to handle stuff like ghalta.

If you're looking for a rattlesnake like card while you stabilize, boros reckoner can be a mono red solution that could deter swings from some beefier stuff on the other side of the board and get you to star mana potentially.

You can use steal+sac effects to decent success in red if you're specially trying to beat mono green which lines up super well against everything mono red is going to throw at it damage wise on the battlefield. Thinking kari zev's expertise if you're low enough to the ground followed by thud or fling. Stuff like glorybringer can keep most of the rest of their junk at bay while closing the life gap.

It's kind of out of reds color pie because there comes a point where it's just a board wipe after a certain damage number.. That's why I found star so surprising when it was printed, but the color needed options for commander that were flavorful aside from blasphemous act or comet storm.

I have no idea why I thought this was the EDH forum :) Sorry.

Hour is probably the best these days I think, walkers are a menace in pioneer from what I can tell :)

thanks for the additional suggestions. Will give them some thought.
Aggro is plenty in my local area, so sweepers that get rid of multiple creatures are good right now.

I see now. For awhile, I thought chain reaction got reprinted.
Played during zendikar standard, and chain reaction was a good card during those time.

yeah, Hour of Devastation is good in my meta because it kills that... I forgot the name... pseudo-tarmogoyf 4/5 elf and also weaken or kill their vraska planeswalker standing beside the elf.
