So... many... new releases.

I hope, I really dearly do, that C20 being themed around a set from the upcoming year doesn't mean that it's going to be the case from here on out. One of the best things about the Commander releases for me has been seeing new versions of old characters or characters from old storylines that never got a card. It made flavor sense for the ELD brawl decks to be all set on Eldraine, of course, but I would be massively disappointed to see no more old characters every year, to say the least.

Oh, and the red-haired woman is...Jeska? Or possibly Karona, given she has both Jeska's blade (from her Phage half) and the Dream Chisel (from her Akroma half)?
Psst, check the second page of Custom Card Contests & Games! Because of the daily contests, a lot of games fall down to there.

Yeah thats Jeska.

I can't wait to see what they did for a set of commander. Great way to knock out a bunch of requested characters as well since no hard theme or color balancing needs.

EDIT: I hope to see partner (with) and this should be they put arcane signet reprints.

That's not a dream chisel. It's just the club/mace Jeska had in her original art.

Hopefully we'll get the reprints we most need - of course with the knowledge that everyone probably disagrees on what THAT means. My own take is...

NEVER-REPRINTED MUST HAVES:
Teferi's Protection (it's pretty stupid that a glorified Fog is currently $50)
Steelshaper's Gift (almost as ridiculous a wait as the next card)
Rhystic Study (I'm flabbergasted it has gotten as bad as it has and we're rapidly reaching the point at which they're going to have to print it at rare or mythic if they wait any longer)
Rise of the Dark Realms (I hadn't realized this had ballooned to $28)
Purphoros, God of the Forge (assuming he isn't in Theros 2)
Heroic Intervention (see my feelings on Teferi's Protection except it's more of a counterspell and at least it's only $11)
Oracle of Mul Daya (a looong time coming)
Arcane Signet (needs to be reprinted until it is about as much as Sol Ring)
Phyrexian Altar (is out of control for sure)

I'm also hoping for some amount of the stuff we've had reprinted or that was printed fairly recently but that is still out of control because they are such staples. We clearly won't get ALL of them, but at least two of the following per color...

WHITE: Path to Exile. Wrath of God. Archangel of Thune. Anointed Procession. Smothering Tithe.
BLUE: Cyclonic Rift. Propaganda. Leyline of Anticipation. Swan Song. Disallow.
BLACK: Phyrexian Arena. Blood Artist. Dictate of Erebos. Necropotence. Exsanguinate. Necromancy.
RED: Blasphemous Act. Vandalblast. Reforge the Soul. Goblin Bombardment. Past in Flames.
GREEN: So many targets - Craterhoof Behemoth, Doubling Season, Sylvan Library, and Exploration are the big guns, and I imagine we'll only get one of those, so I'm also hoping to see some of Nature's Lore, Eternal Witness, Parallel Lives, Asceticism, Three Visits, and Song of the Dryads (many of those are also on the never-reprinted list),
MULTICOLOR: Aura Shards is probably the most glaring card, but I wouldn't complain at more cracks at Pernicious Deed, Anguished Unmaking, and Mirari's Wake.
COLORLESS: Ashnod's Altar. Sensei's Divining Top. Thought Vessel. Lightning Greaves. Skullclamp.

I didn't list tutors because we'll be lucky to get one and certainly we won't get them all.

I will be praying that we get as few tutors as possible. Commander was designed as a singleton format with the purpose to promote games and strategies that vary widely between games. Tutors have been the bane of that philosophy. Demonic Tutor, Mystical Tutor and their ilk can be burned in a fireplace for all I care.

On a positive note, I hope 2020 will finally be the year when they print legends that have been waited for Commander for far too long. Examples include several tribes that are still lacking a good commander, such as werewolves and spirits. Also a good place to print ramp-hate cards that the format is desperately in need. Tectonic Hellion was a good start, but more are welcome.

Am I the only one who's worried about the 70+ brand new legends? Commander products in the past had 16~20 new legends each year, they're literally putting three plus years worth of ideas into this one, and that's not counting the Commander Legend decks. And if they continue with this trend, well of creativity will run dry quickly.

They can easily do bland legendaries like Grumgully or "reprint" interesting limited build around uncommons as legendaries, like tenth district legionnaire.
I'm more worried about the balance. I hope they won't slipe a Prossh-like or a Derevi-like powered card in this product

I think it will depend on what they do. One thing to remember is normally the commander deck legends need to fit the colors of the deck and enable the theme of deck as well as make sense flavor wise (more so with old characters finally getting cards/ old characters getting new "improved" cards) which often conflict with each other. Might be there are a number of characters that they had issue getting into decks and so this set is a good place to put "one-off".
Off the top of my head for an example is getting the Three Bolas gods before being corrupted as cards. In a normal commander deck they would either have to be spread out between the 4 deck depending on the color, all overlap enough to be in one deck or all three being on one card as well as fitting whatever theme and being in flavor. Here we can just have them with out most of the restrictions.

Jeska also points to walker commanders which helps since walker commander don't pop up as much and thus not taking too many designs from future decks.

By the way, the Kamigawa art for the article is most likely Seedborn Muse. What else is monogreen, non-Kamigawan, a Spirit, and worth reprinting?

EDIT: Primordial Sage is also an option but the art doesn't look like a 4/5.

Various thoughts:

-No strong opinion on 5 decks instead of 4 - they went to four decks because that's the most common / default pod size, so you could easily have a game with all of the precons in it, which makes sense if you're considering them as an isolated product. On the other hand, by adding an extra deck, you significantly increase the variety of gameplay available.
-Tying them to the new set seems reasonable - guarantees that there will be support for both the deck themes and the set themes. They've already sort of done this in the past (ex: Mardu vampires in preparation for Ixalan), but doing it explicitly is fine. I do have my concerns about them coming out at the same time as the new set though - not a lot of breathing room for either.
-Replacing planeswalker decks with commander decks and using them as a preconstructed product for new players is... interesting. I'm not going to complain about introducing new players to the format, and you'll probably get more mileage out of a commander deck than you will a planeswalker deck. Time will tell whether this is a better format for teaching new players though. On the other hand, the thing that got me invested in Magic in the first place was casual multiplayer, so that's one point in favor.
-Commander collection: green - premium product for people that want to bling out their decks. I'm not its target audience, but won't complaint about more high-profile reprints. I do sort of wish other colors got some love though. >.>
-Commander legends - I loved drafting Dominaria, in part because of all the legendary creatures at uncommon, and this somehow has twice as many legends per pack. I'll hold full judgment until seeing the full set, but I'm generally optimistic.

On a more holistic view of things, one of the attributes I appreciate about EDH is how little investment I need to put in once I have a deck, so not sure how I feel about them monetizing the format more aggressively. I'm not going to complain about having more stuff, but it does seem like it will be more difficult to keep up with everything. I also have some concerns about power creep, which is weird to think about for a casual format... but the format has definitely sped up significantly since I started playing. Part of that may be because I've been playing in stronger metas, but I would also say that a lot of powerful cards have gotten printed in all the various commander-focused products.

With 70 new legends, we better get a legendary Kavu.

I'm also hoping that Idyllic Tutor receives a reprint. It's just silly that it cost more money than Demonic Tutor.
Current Decks
rg Morophon, the infinite Kavu Eowyn, human tribal Legolas, voltron control Wb Tymna/Ravos cleric tribal Neheb, Chicago Bulls tribal Ug Edric pauper

Retired Decks
Edgar Markov Kaalia, angel board wipes Ghen, prison Captain Sisay Ub Nymris, draw go Sarulf, voltron control Niv-Mizzet, combo Winota Sidisi, Zombie Tribal

I guess another question is:

What about Brawl?

They made four Brawl decks and they were actually interesting to play with, yet one expansion after they go with Commander decks instead? Hm... Not saying Brawl could catch up with EDH, but that felt like a wasted potential to have the enthusiasm last only two sets.

Important thing to note about Commander Collection: They mentioned there is going to be a non-foil version and a foil version available.

Hopefully this means both the "high value foil" players AND the "don't want $70 staples" types can be satisfied.

On the other hand, the art looks quite sage-y, with the cross-legged stance etc...

Hoping for the same old group of angels to get a card:
- 4th Innistrad Archangel Sister
- Asha, ruler of Bant
- New Gabriel Angelfire
- New Radiant, Archangel
- New Selenia, Dark Angel
At least one of them might make it...

4th Sister would be AWESOME. When Battlebond came out I imagined Regna, the Redeemer/Krav, the Unredeemed could be what 4th Sister would be in design, since she attempted to make peace with the dark forces of the world (but everything changed when Sorin made a Goth angel). Perhaps we will see more partners in that set as well.

I do hope they have cards that motivate people to play mono-color more though. It's convenient to just add an extra color to a legend at the same time it's very lazy. Feldon of the Third Path is what a lore-centric legend should be, expressing the less known facets of a color, allowing it to do something seemly outside of color-pie but makes perfect sense.

If i'm not misremembering, 4th sister is the most requested legend after Urza/Yawgmoth/Serra so i think we'll surely get her

One of the more interesting characters since before the Jacetice League era.
