Have to say....the prevalent plan for Chulane is kinda boring. Seems to be spam Shrieking Drake, combo out with Aluren/Laboratory Maniac, or chew through the deck and machine gun with Walking Ballista. Doesn't even seem a lot of fun to pilot. I'd love to see someone do a different thing with him.
This is why I'm never really interested in discussions on new commanders. Optimization discussions are interesting for a time, then it feels like the prevailing wisdom is to only build in that particular way. I understand the motivation for competitive formats/cEDH play and not so much elsewhere.

Chulane in particular can support literally any creature based strategy in Bant colors, which should give people plenty of room to play around with. Optimizing to Shrieking Drake/Aluren combo lines in every list might be the most effective deck but it doesn't feel like something that would stay interesting to play to me.

Yep, totally agree. I think the 'let's brew' threads are fine for optimising, but they do often lead down the avenue of solving a commander. That's fine for some people, but it doesn't interest me. In this particular case, the whole drake/aluren is undeniably effective. If you can draw your whole deck you should win. But yeah, to me it seems the sort of thing you do once or twice and you're bored. That's certainly how it's seemed from the receiving end. It's pretty clear what's happening and it's not particularly exciting.
That's one reason my interest in making a deck around him wanted by the time he was actually released.
I saw your puzzles thread. I kind of try to do this with most of my builds, and it's a great way to keep a list fresh and fun to play and play against. Multiple avenues to play down, a myriad of outcomes, definitely more variant and likely less successful but infinitely more fun - and to me that's success. It's the reason my Nissa list has lasted so long, and the reason I haven't given up on Glissa. Toolbox builds are fun and flex your brain muscles.

I haven't given up on building Arcades, but it's in the back burner until I finish tweaking Muldrotha. I have like 5 decks I want to rebuild and 0 time to do it.

I'm in a similar boat. Im rebuilding 5 of my classic edh decks and man they are expensive especially when saving for an engagement ring and the subsequent wedding.

Congrats here too! Exciting times ahead.

Betrothal > EDH decks, but don't spend a ton on either. Trust me, expenses can get really out of hand with weddings.

For sure. I was working for a wedding company when I got engaged, so I got a bunch of stuff for the ceremony and the sound system for the reception at cost. Wife and I did a lot of stuff ourselves for the reception as well, so we were basically just paying for venue, food, and a couple other little things. Still ridiculously expensive overall. I totally understand the courthouse wedding/eloping and I'm pretty sure everyone planning a wedding seriously considers it at some point.

Congrats Ulka!

Other than that I have nothing to contribute to that conversation, lol.

Can confirm, we considered it. Thankfully it was just on account of money and not family dramas.

We did ours at my in-laws' house (it's actually a converted chapel, so it's huge), made as much as we could and it still blew out a bit. Our budget was pretty shoe string at 15k NZD, but still, I think you expect to go over a little. My cousin dropped like 60k on hers, and from what I'm told it was more ostentatious than lovely. So, you know, more expensive isn't always more gooder.

From what I've heard the big thing is not to drop the word 'wedding' when you buy like cakes, food, suits etc. Retailers will hike the price like 20% as soon as they hear it. If you're asked you say 'oh this is for a 40th, their favourite color is white' lol.

I think my wife and I spent about 3,000 USD total on our wedding, but it was also just 80 people. And the engagement ring wasn't as cheap as created sapphire would be (mostly because it was amethyst), but it was like one week's pay for me at most. Diamonds are a scam, kids. ;)

We had 75 people at ours, and still spent 15k. Yeesh.

To be fair though, there was a dress drama, we sprang for professional photography and got in caterers. Some thing just aren't worth doing yourself.

Yeah, we cut a bunch of corners for a more relaxed gig, and got some good deals with our hires. Oh, and there were certain typical hires we didn't do at all, like wedding planner.

wedding planner.
You mean fiancé? There's no way we'd have afforded a wedding planner. Thankfully my wife is incredible at organizing events, and thankfully I know when to keep my fingers out of the pie.. Between that and my dad sorting out the booze what we paid was still pretty reasonable all told.

We did seriously consider a registry court wedding though. We were pretty broke at the time so it took a long time to squirrel away for.

Last night some asshole made an account named "cryogensucks" and spammed the forums shortly before getting banned. In addition to being a bad troll they showed off their poor skills at making magic cards and showed off a custom card that was so weak it wouldn't even see play in Limited.

Well I've started major renovations on my basement. Gonna finish knocking down the wall that separates the min area from the pantry. We turned the old laundry room where the booze was kept into a full pantry so now almost the entire basement is mine. I'll post a pic once I get the wall knocked down. Cristian is gonna help me frame and hang drywall so it'll be slow going but at the least I should be able to start using the area again soon.

Pulled an Ayula, Queen Among Bears and a foil Bear token.

I mean, clearly, that's my next deck.

Just wanted to jump in and say that its been a few years since I last played, so I started on Arena, I thought JTMS was bad, but omg both Teferis made games miserable, and now Oko makes me want to sell my cards again.
