That's actually pretty cute. I'll have to keep it in mind if I ever try to build that turbo garbage Argothian Wurm packed deck harking back to my MTG origins that haunts me in the back of my mind.

Grothama, All-Devouring helmed something similar to that for a while. I got to run my old pal Silvos, Rogue Elemental on Hug Slug killing duty, and would pretty reliably lard up hard. The deck was a touch too good for my group, and kept getting vetoed in playtesting. First I took the green Myojin out, then made some other amendments, but it just refused to cooperate within the confines of the meta. I miss it the most of the decks that never got to be.

Maybe if I pursued jankier options like the card of the day, rather than Dragon Throne of Tarkir off a Mossbridge Troll, I wouldn't be reminiscing about it now :P

My first thought on seeing this card is to combo it with Goblin War Drums so that all my creatures are unblockable.

When I first opened a pack of Weatherlight and got it, that was my first thought too. The Stalking Tiger ability only gets better with menace being keyworded (and thus printed more).

Ofc, not to be confused with Stocking Tiger :P

I'm actually a big fan of this card. 2/3 of a gilded lotus, and two colours > ccc from Dynamo, plus it can cheat on your land tax and keep someabds in store for impending geddons. What's not to love? Plus, it's not like the land bounce is a cost.

I think I prefer Hedron Archive or Thran Dynamo for most decks. To prefer Khalni Gem, you really need to get value out of the land bouncing - either because you have care about landfall (ex: Omnath, Locus of Rage), or have extra land drops (ex: Azusa, Lost but Seeking). Alternatively, lands with ETB effects worth recurring, such as Bojuka Bog, or Mosswort Bridge.

There are some cards that care about having fewer lands than your opponents. Land Tax and Knight of the White Orchid are the most obvious, but Surveyor's Scope, Isolated Watchtower, and Natural Balance are also options.

You can also bounce two of the lands you used to cast this, and then even use one as your land drop so this effectively costs 3.

How do you mean? As in, it's not literally an additional cost to the spell? I guess that matters if it's countered (why would the happen?) or if you somehow play this with no lands out. But it's definitely a huge drawback most of the time.

Fixing that costs 4 is no fixing at all, IMO, so I'd take Tehran dynamo over this in most decks even without the land bounce. With the bounce, this doesn't ramp at all in most circumstances, so why are we paying 4 exactly? It's functionally very similar to a Ravnica bounce land, except it costs 4 (well, 2 if you consider it enters untapped, but you still need to wait until 4 mana to play it).

If you're playing a lot of geddons I could maaaaybe see justifying this but outside of that it's a hard pass for me. Landfall commanders are better off playing land ramp, for obvious reasons.

Essentially it costs 1, because you'll replay one of the lands you returned. Or it can cost a net 0 if you returned a sol land (ancient tomb, city of traitors).

I don't consider it a slam dunk by any means, but I do think it's a sleeper engine in the right builds.

I have on occasion played Leave // Chance just to bounce and replay Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx.

True, the big mana land abuse scenarios are gorgeous, but what about the other side of the coin here - you play this and someone pops it? You just picked up two (occasionally one, if you had no other land drop) lands and don't even have a rock to show for it anymore.

That's assuming you don't have a land to play already, though. Which, if you're playing this on-curve, you presumably did.

There is the potential (as tstorm mentioned) to bounce a big-mana land like cradle or coffers or whatever, in which case it can be pretty ok (but there are still plenty of better options, like doubling cube that lets you do it every turn, or even a land like deserted temple that works much more powerfully with big-mana lands), but I see the floor being quite bad (2 mana to do basically nothing) and the ceiling being pretty meh. If you're planning of wiping lands then maybe, but that's the only situation I see this really making sense in, personally.

The bounce is one of those costs which can be played around or work to your advantage. Hey, Winter Orb again!

Beyond that, it's also useful with landfall or, I guess spell lands?

I'd say it's worth it. One of the few mana rocks costing over 3 that is.

Well, there's - I'd say those are the broadly-useful ones - I've used all of them in some decks, and most of them in Kaervek specifically. Seems like enough to be going on. And some others might be useful in specific decks like blinkmoth urn and crystalline crawler, and stuff like gauntlets and immortal sun that are *kind of* mana rocks.

I could see running it in hokori, dust drinker?

Yeah. It's not the kind of card you run on it's own, but it has a lot of strategic implementations you can take advantage of with it. Guess I just like the intricacies.

Evil Twin is fun, and flavor fun too. On your average game, the weirdest creatures have evil twins lurking about, it seems. And if nothing else, it's a handy clone of your own stuff with a spiffy flavor.

You can't do width/height with cardimg tags (though you can do set-specific), but you can with image tags and then wrap that in a card tag. (Quote this post for code.)
