I think I'll actually pick up this Secret Lair. I quite like the art (even the silly Bone Chewer one) and Kamigawa is a set fairly close to my heart. Might fiddle with a Rat deck for the hell of it.

EDIT: I hope it comes with tokens, but at the same time I imagine that would have been advertised.

Ink-eyes art is easily my favourite of those. I mean, I'm not buying it because it's foil and ink-eyes is a middling card, but if they had the same sort of art on a non-foil printing of a card I regularly play, they'd have my attention.

Why is it rat colony? Who plays rat colony? Surely it should be relentless rats...

Rat Colony was likely the pick because they can only put 5 of the card in the package. Relentless is likely the overall stronger card, but in the context of "we can only give you 5 of this", Rat Colony likely works better as a 5 of in a rat EDH deck or 60 card casual, where relentless would likely draw accusations of "forcing" people to buy 6-7 copies of the lair.

I've got a ratdec in my group, and it runs Rat Colony. Growing off the Marrow-Gnawer swarm turns out to be pretty good for killing people quickly. Notice Relentless Rats only cares about copies of itself.

Fair enough, that makes sense. Although it sure didn't bother them with the snow-covered lair. I wonder if maybe that one didn't sell as well, wouldn't surprise me.

Eh, that all look pretty underwhelming from a power perspective, imo. surgeon commander is really the only one that seems fairly strong. Btw, generals is what we used to call them back in the day, right? I still use the term "EDH" occasionally, but I pretty much always call the leader of my deck my "commander" these days.

alexander clamilton does look fun to build and play, though. I guess some of these seem legit in terms of being interesting and different.

Syr Cadian, Knight Owl is probably the deepest wordplay ever to hit a Magic card, and sets up a pretty straightforward mix of B/W knight tribal with B/W life gain shananigans.

It's funny, i transitioned from "general" to "commander" really quick, but i still call the format EDH most of the times.
By the way, a lot of this cards are legit and could be (almost) work in black border/serious games.

ice cauldron is even in his CI. It'd be tricky to actually make use of his ability without trading him off, though, unless you just want to pick off smaller utility critters, in which case cauldron is pretty unnecessary. Maybe use forbidden orchard to give out crappy tokens, then fight them all while untapping him with umbral mantle or something, and then swinging in for a sweet 1-shot lethal.

I think the real fundamental problem with trying to make alexander clamilton work, as a deck, though, is that while theoretically he might be pretty interesting, in reality it will be impossible to play because I won't be able to stop singing songs from "Hamilton" until I'm physically thrown out of the store.

Mildly disappointed we don't get any more cards from the League of Dastardly Doom. Still, cards look amusing.

Surgeon Commander is mildly intriguing as a 5-color auras commander. Is mutate already a keyword? I don't recognize it. Maybe a plant for Ikoria?
Also, I usually use 'EDH' over 'commander' - same number of syllables, but significantly fewer letters makes it easier to say. Do use 'commander' over 'general' though.

Acornelia, Fashionable Filcher is intriguing. Triggering off cast, ETB, and death potentially means a lot of acorns, and repeatable removal (or pump) is pretty solid. I could see her helming an adorable voltron deck.

Alexander Clamilton has a fantastic name, but tapping makes him somewhat awkward if you want to beat down. Again though, repeatable removal is good.

Not particularly impressed by Stet, Draconic Proofreader, unless there is something I'm missing with the name altering ability. Conditionally shooting something for 4 on attack is fine, but strongly outclassed by Drakuseth, Maw of Flames. Extra color, I guess?

Pippa, Duchess of Dice is interesting from a rules perspective - there are extremely few ways to take game actions in the middle of the resolution of an ability, but she (theoretically) lets you do something while resolving something involving a dice roll. Again, no idea how to abuse it, but interesting. Dice also aren't tokens, which may yield some interesting interactions (ex: Soul of the Harvest effects).

Syr Cadian, Knight Owl has at least three layers of puns and is amazing. Knightlifelink is a pretty powerful ability. I also appreciate that when it starts to get dark (usually around the time your LGS is going to close), it gains evasion to close out games.

Strutting Turkey is fantastic, and I hope this effect comes to black border. I do wish it were CMC 3 to be consistent with Sun Titan and Sevinne's Reclamation though. (also, there is a pretty big difference in value between 2 and 3 cmc)

Full-art basics are gorgeous, as usual.

I think you play Stet's activated ability like hexproof.
"You targeted Linvala with that Path. Her name right now is Invala."
(That at least makes it more interesting as a Boros legend.)
Also anti-Relentless Rats (making you buy Year of the Rat for the Rat Colony)

Guys, Acornelia is everything I could ever want from a tribal legend. The Un- impact of caring about art (thereby triggering off auras or the random elves or whoever care about squirrels but are not squirrels themselves)...it's perfection. I am a big fan.

I'm guessing you aren't actually serious, but it definitely shouldn't work that way. Things having their names changed (I.e. by copying something else) while being targeted is already a thing and it doesn't mess with what is being targeted.

The way you actually use him is to win a 1v1 game by deleting your opponent's name and then threatening to scoop, thus preventing the turn from ending and leaving them forever nameless. They'll have no choice but to agree to your demands.

Odd corner case: playing a Runed Halo on _____ would, I think, let you gain protection from any creature or player by deleting all the letters in their name. Unless there's a previous Un-ruling about naming _____, which is possible.

so MaRo posted oon his tumblr the following info about ikoria

Previews for Ikoria: Lair of the Behemoths don't start until April 2, but I've been getting a lot of requests from people cooped up at home that are eager for any content, so I decided to do something I used to do all the time back in my column in The Duelist. I'm going to be giving you a Maro Teaser where I give tiny hints of things to come. Note that I'm only giving you partial information.

The following can be found in Ikoria:

• Magic's seventh Egg

• A card with the text "four or more times this game"

• A card with the text "total power 10 or less"

• Magic's largest power/toughness granting aura.

• A card with the text "X is the number of times this creature has mutated"

• Magic's third and fourth card with "(Zero is even.)" reminder text.

• Three cards with the text "different name(s)"

• Twelve different types of counters

• A card that says "choose a kind of counter at random"

• A card with the text "remove eight foreshadow counters"

• And a cycle that players have been asking us to make for over ten years

In addition, Ikoria has creatures with the following creature types:

• Dinosaur Turtle

• Shark Beast

• Demon Kraken

• Elemental Otter

• Brushwagg

• Hellion Horror

• and a Nightmare Squirrel (Yes, a Squirrel in a Standard-legal set!)
