For protection, wouldn't Tyrite Sanctum be better here because the indestructible property comes from the land instead? It also keeps the whole thing in the lands, which is more on theme.

This plan is convoluted enough that I might build around it or add it to a bad deck.

Surely Golos is the obvious pick with how many unique lands are needed. Plus you get the best tutors for book.

My MO is to take a silly idea and try to make it as effective as possible. If you build the deck right, optimal play should push you towards doing the silly thing. If you are pushed towards doing something else instead, then rework it. If the silly thing ends up being too effective, then you can try something sillier next time.

See, i want this to be effective in the sense that it works. Not the win con.
People are trying to protect this to make it a win con. On its own, it does nothing. you may not be able to lose, but you also cannot win.
I see it as a protection aspect. My dragon deck cannot deal with lands and can deck itself (Sorta, I can work it to get infinite turns as Nexus of fate will keep getting shuffled back in)
This however only cam up once when someone tried to mill me out. Sadly my forces could not bust through his defenses.

This is why I want my buddy to use this and Kormus bell combo. One option makes it tough to take him out, the other shuts us down as we cannot cast spells.

You totally win. You let your opponents look through their whole deck for a way to kill it. If they don't have anything, then eventually they're going to mill out.

If they have something like an eldrazi titan prevent mill out, then I guess it's a draw unless you can kill them in some other way, or exile the eldrazi somehow. Although the eldrazi is a reasonable threat against you too tbh, since it will eventually make you sac a land. afaik there's no easily-protectable ways to prevent sacking. Sure, sigarda or whatever, but she can just die to a board wipe. If you're planning to defend sigarda with all the indestructible/etc...then you may as well put the book counter on her to begin with.

You had me worried for a second that Zedruu couldn't solve the puzzle of indestructible, hexproof land with a book counter, but then I remembered infinite Catch // Release solves a lot of problems, and Mirrorweave solves Sigarda, so we're still good.

Hrmmmm... this combo is stupid enough that I kind of want to slot it into Tivadar of Thorn. That deck just naturally has a ton of angels anyway.

Eeeeeh. Letting people naturally deck is a pretty terrible wincon. A single Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre in a single deck and you're pretty housed. Eldrazi Titan's aren't exactly rare either. I think a lot of decks can create some loop to avoid being naturally decked. I'm fond of Darksteel Colossus and run it in a handful of decks. I could just get to 7 cards in hand and perma-discard it. *Shrug*

The combo does buy you a hilariously long time to close out the game with whatever win-con floats your fancy though.

A handful of my decks can handle the land being indestructible or hexproof, none of my decks can win if the land is indestructible and hexproof though. Chromium can assemble Avacyn, Angel of Hope + Padeem, Consul of Innovation + Lightning Greaves + Swiftfoot Boots + Platinum Angel and then my opponent and I can just stare at each other forever (Glen Elendra Archmage for extra Cyclonic Rift related insurance).

Unless of course March of the Machines makes your boots walk away for a while.

The combo is far from air-tight but it's fairly resilient. It's just my best answer to indestructible, hexproof, platinum angel Faceless Haven.

Fair. You could probably break the stalemate with a sufficient number of Ashnod's Coupons.

So first you assemble this horrendous combo, then you ask if anyone has outs, and there are many outs, especially if people pool resources (i.e. player A makes lands into creatures, Player B makes creatures lose hexproof, Player C swords to plowshares the thing), then you continue playing until the pivotal turn when they try to break your combo and you try to stop them.

It's brutal.

I imagine you want some Jester's cap effects to pick out the outs from peoples decks. Black has a few of these.

Lol did I not say exactly that thing under the part you quoted? Although, any grave hate and you're fine (though not from bsc etc).

If I could get housed by my opponent having an ulamog that'd be rad, though. It'd save me a lot of time looking for an apartment, I'll tell ye that.

looking at AFR but ignoring the creatures makes it much more exciting somehow. the twelve classes, all the trinkets and equipment options, lots of modal spells which don't necessarily cost less mana than the effects they combine. I know the manlands are mostly a miss in multiplayer but I kinda love those too. and the planeswalkers seem like the hardest lot to analyze in a long time!

(thinking of making this the last set I buy from. there's so many expansions that I can't get hyped for another and have no interesting in steadily making a deck better and better. just time to snapshot and work out what I still like about the game.)

Aaaaaaaaand spoiler season begins yet again. Very happy to see flashback returning - it's a very solid mechanic. I started playing in the original Innistrad block, so always happy to see its graveyard themes return.

Oh baby, I'm gonna play Infernal Grasp in a lot of decks.

Glad we're doing upkeep trigger on "win the game" cards. Thassa's Oracle was a mistake. 13 cards in hand seems pretty trivial for a dedicated deck, but surviving until upkeep is going to be tricky, especially since using a card to protect him kinda screws you up, lol.

I do love the name on champion of the perished. Not gonna play it but it's totes adorbs.

Triskadekaphile is an Azure Mage that someone has to waste interaction on, but the sort of decks that want incidental lighting rod creatures don't really want Azure Mages, imo.

To whom it may concern-

Since Triskaidekaphile has an intervening "if" clause, if you start the turn with 12 cards and activate his ability to draw in your upkeep, you won't win the game. The clause must be true at the start of your upkeep in order to trigger, and there is no time that you have priority before the start of your upkeep. You'll need 13 cards at the end of the turn preceding yours. Thought you might want to know.

Sincerely,

Dirk Gently

I feel he will need to be looked at. Blue has a lot of ways to draw, discard and counter things. at 2 mana he can be dropped earl and win out games quickly. Blue also has access to flash and Leyline of anticipation. There are just too many ways to have a instant win. The conditions are not as dificult to pull off as some others. (50+ life, still being at your starting life, being at exactly 1 life. or playing a card the second time) And those are just in white. It may just be me but this one seems a little too easy to pull off. I also feel it would thrive in Esper.

Sincerely,

Dirk Gently
That is why we play Paradox Haze. Interesting idea for a wincon, need to see if there is room for it in Golos. That tokens overhaul I keep talking about doing might finally happen.

Two-ish weeks later, more previews! :unamused:

At least on the plus side, we're going back to Innistrad, with more of the classic set and less of the Eldrazi nonsense.

Triskaidekaphile could replace Azure Mage in Naru Meha, have another route to victory that way.

Wrenn and Seven is about as much of a snap include for testing in Titania I've seen in a while. More Wrenn! Huzzah, was a really cool looking PW with the W6 version, can't wait to learn more about her.

Infernal Grasp is a solid role-player, will happily pick up a few.

Consider has a lot of brethren in the 1 drop CA department, so it'll depend on the deck you're playing what you should go with.

Not a fan of the updated bundles though. 2 less boosters, and the type of booster being changed to Set, which has less cards and only a marginally higher chance of rare pulling. Should have been one change or the other, not both. Less boosters of the better type, or the same old number of boosters, but a potentially lesser quality booster.

Oh baby, I'm gonna play Infernal Grasp in a lot of decks.
Yeah, this is the best doom blade variant we've had in a loooooooong time.

Don't worry, I'm sure if Triskaidekaphile gets popular enough they'll print a planeswalker and busted ETB trigger version. #still salty that Laboratory Maniac isn't the only card with a win the game if you have no library card
