Ish, I can cheat out or reanimation Fusion with actual stats at least.
Current Theme Deck Projects:
Reprint, but certainly an interesting option for Modern - hates on a lot of creature-based combos. I've had mixed feelings about it in EDH - there aren't that many activated abilities on non-commander creatures, and Pithing Needle is usually an easier solution to commanders (while also hitting planeswalkers and other card types). Still, it's certainly a solid option for decks that can take advantage of it.
....Linvala, Keeper of Silence is sometimes more troublesome to deal with, but it really depends on what sort of non-creature-based interaction you're running.
For some reason I thought it was a mainstay of competitive EDH for a while. In any case, I'm glad more people will have access to it, and I'm still happy I got a CLASSIC Sixth Edition copy.
Mirri, Cat Warrior counts as a Cat Warrior.

Any time they make an older card more available is a good thing, regardless of how much it's currently being used. It brings the price down and provides more people opportunity to use it.
Cursed Totem will obviously be more impactful to Modern than to Commander, but it's nice to knock a $30 card down t a peg.

Combine Chrysalis is an interesting card and seems tailor made for any Adrix and Nev, Twincasters/Esix, Fractal Bloom deck and maybe Xyris, the Writhing Storm.
Tireless Provisioner on the other hand is really interesting, and while obviously not as powerful as Tireless Tracker, does something really unique. It's probably the easiest repeatable source of Food tokens available and one of the easiest sources of treasure tokens. All the treasure token production green is getting is making me wonder if I should switch out Falthis, Shadowcat Familiar in my Toggo, Goblin Weaponsmith artifact deck for either Reyhan, Last of the Abzan or Ikra Shidiqi, the Usurper even though neither really fit the theme of the deck.

I'm glad to see Tireless Provisioner. I was looking for Treasure producers that can stand on their own for my The Ur-Dragon deck, besides Dockside Extortionist and Smothering Tithe. This will give better support for the occasional dragons that care about them.

Tireless Provisioner is a Lotus Cobra for one extra mana but you get more relevant tribe, better ability and better stats.
Yeah, Tireless Provisioner looks quite nice. The extra mana over Lotus Cobra is relevant, but treasure tokens are awesome. Food generation can also be nice occasionally.
Archon of Cruelty is an entertaining reanimation option - it's a miniature Cruel Ultimatum on ETB and attack. Give it haste, flicker it, and ride it to value town.
....also, I did not realize Cursed Totem had climbed so much in price. I remember picking up a copy for cheap a few years ago, testing it out, being disappointed, and throwing it in my rare binder.

Is it possible though that demand for it in Modern will cause the price to go right back upJovialJovian wrote: ↑2 years agoCursed Totem will obviously be more impactful to Modern than to Commander, but it's nice to knock a $30 card down t a peg.

Am I the only one slightly annoyed by the flavor text on Archon of Cruelty? It's just random nonsense that reads as "bad stuff makes other bad stuff". It's like something lego batman would say.
Let me emphasize that this is a very minor problem.

Its very much just ominous gobbledygook. Its a fine line, some cards walk it well, this one doesn't.DirkGently wrote: ↑2 years agoAm I the only one slightly annoyed by the flavor text on Archon of Cruelty? Yeah, at 3CMC (old habits die hard I can't use MV) it'd be a really solid add for Varina, Lich Queen. At 4, I'm not super sure it's worth it, but I might well give it a go.

As low as to draw 2 cards. Yeah that is pretty good.
*edit*
I could easily have 6 artifacts on the board by turn 4 or 5 in my Jhoira, Weatherlight Captain deck. At that point Thought Monitor is a Ancestral Recall on a bear with flying.

Very much the same with the Emry, Lurker of the Loch build I've been trialling. Obviously being able to spam it from the yard repeatedly is nice too, so....yeah I'll be grabbing one for sure.Gamazson wrote: ↑2 years agoAs low as to draw 2 cards. Yeah that is pretty good.

Yeah, Thought Monitor looks sweet. Thoughtcast with a significantly better card typing, and thus a significant upgrade for many artifact-based decks. Add in the new artifact lands, and I'm quite pleased. It's also a very interesting Treasure Mage option.
I think Treasure Mage would be wasted fetching Thought Monitor since you want to be fetching a win con. Using a tutor to grab single use card draw feels like a waste to me.

Not really. Having an option to fetch an early/mid game card with Treasure Mage really adds to its flexibility. Otherwise it would be a dead card until you hit your sixth mana.Gamazson wrote: ↑2 years agoI think Treasure Mage would be wasted fetching Thought Monitor since you want to be fetching a win con. Edit: Picking up a Thought Monitor for Akiri/Sakashima for sure!
