Edit:
The Quandrix and Witherbloom colleges are practically everything I wanted from the Sultai/Zagoth wedge, and Tanazir Quandrix and Beledros Witherbloom are fine Elder Dragons, so it's a good thing I posted this before Strixhaven released.

Edit 2:
With Modern Horizons 2 on the...horizon, there is now a real possibility that
SPOILER

there will be a proper Sultai/Zagoth Elder Dragon. Alas, poor Vlaryk, you've been made superfluous and redundant. But this has been an amazing year for me.
Edit 3: Well, I overhyped myself. No wedge-colored Elder Dragons except for Piru. Oh well, there's always the next set. Vlaryk's not obsolete...yet.

With all of that, I felt it's appropriate to unleash this monstrosity.

The card in question is a bgu Elder Dragon.

Warnings:
1-This is hands-down the absolute WORST thing I have ever designed, and that includes Yu-Gi-Oh!
2-Speaking of which, there's a lot of inspiration from Yu-Gi-Oh! card effects.
3-This card is basically a hodge-podge of my favorite card effects and what I personally find aesthetically pleasing.
4-I had to utilize secondary and tertiary effects a lot, perhaps a few bends here and there.
5-Like a lot of multicolored cards, some abilities skew towards certain color(s). So some abilities might skew more towards Dimir, Golgari, or Simic, or even monocolored.
5-This monstrosity will have its own rulings, right below the cards.
6-It's not final, and probably will never be. Likely I'll be adding as time passes.

Anyway, first an introduction:
One of my fixations is tokens, specifically creature tokens.

Something I obsess over are "bonus creatures", extra critters your own units can summon to the field. In card games, they're usually tokens; in video games it's summoner-type characters and monster/pet trainer type characters/units.

So in MtG I'm always interested in creature tokens, and especially creatures that produce creature tokens.

And my favorite color combination is bgu, which has had its fair share of cards in recent years, especially Commanders.

But what I really wanted was a token-based bgu build.

Note:
-I wanted to steer away from 'graveyard matters', or at least not make it the main focus. bgu has covered it well enough. So the card benefits from the graveyard but is not wholly dependent on it.
-Likewise for self-mill; Sultai and their partners-in-crime Golgari and Dimir already have all the dredge and mill you could want.
-Didn't want to focus too much on card draw. While this color combination is arguably the most potent at repeated permanent-based card draw, there are plenty (some would say too many) Simic cards that have that as their main draw (ha!). Same for 'lands matter'.
-Same for mana manipulation. I feel that's more suited to rgu; besides, I don't think this commander will come down early enough for any meaningful mana shenanigans.

So anyway:
Vlaryk is a triple-faced card, similar to the Optimus Prime, Inspiring Leader card, in that the card unfolds to reveal a third face.

Vlaryk is a bgu Elder Dragon, spawned directly from the Ur-Dragon and ended up crash-landing in a swamp.
He is the classic Evil Amoral Scientist, cruel and heartless in his research.
He has five heads. Each head is bgu, but some lean more into certain colors.

From his right to left (our left to right)
Vlaryk Vylix ub: The most cunning and sly, specializes in subterfuge and extortion. Potent psychic powers and mind-affecting magic
Vlaryk Vulix bg: Primary interests are parasitism, disease, death, and the science of rot and decay, of life feeding on death. Morbid, fatalistic. Uses killing magic and the agents of decay.
Vlaryk Volix bgu: Central head, leader
Vlaryk Velix gu: The most intellectual, obsessed with data and the pursuit of knowledge, always striving for improvement and evolution.
Vlaryk Valix g: The most bestial of the five, always interested in eating, keen senses
Vlaryk considers himself a single entity but with separate aspects. Each head has its own mind and individuality, and the capacity for independent thought.

-Exile all cards from target player's graveyard. An opponent creates a 2/2 black Nightmare Worm creature token with menace.
-Target creature you control deals damage equal to its toughness to target creature or planeswalker you don't control. An opponent gains 5 life.
-Return up to two target creatures or planeswalkers you don't control to their owner's hands. An opponent may draw up to two cards.

---

Survival Horror
Until end of turn, black, green, and/or blue creature cards in your graveyard have encore, escape, and unearth. The encore cost is equal to the card's mana cost plus {2}, the escape cost is equal to its mana cost plus exiling four other cards from your graveyard, and the unearth cost is 3{B}.

---

Synchronized Symbiosis
Create five 1/1 green Saproling creature tokens.
Until your next turn, as long as you control a creature with flying, creature tokens you control have flying. The same is true for first strike, double strike, triple strike, deathtouch, haste, hexproof, indestructible, lifelink, menace, protection, reach, shadow, skulk, trample, and vigilance.

================
Ultimate cards:
================

Vivid Ultimatum
Exile the top seven cards of your library. An opponent separates those cards into two piles. You may play lands and cast spells from one of those piles without paying their mana costs. Put the other pile into your hand.

---

Verdant Ultimatum
Return any number of permanent cards with different names from your graveyard to your hand. You may cast a spell with mana value 7 or less from your hand without paying its mana cost.

---

Victorious Ultimatum
Gain control of all Dragons. For each player, search that player's library and/or graveyard for any number of Dragon creature cards and reveal them. For each card revealed this way, create a token that is a copy of the card, except it's a green Plant in addition to its other colors and types. Each player shuffles all revealed cards they own into their library.

---

Villainous Ultimatum
Each opponent exiles the top seven cards of their library, then you may cast up to three spells from among those cards without paying their mana costs.

---

Vicious Ultimatum
Look at the top seven cards of your library. Put any number of creature cards from among them onto the battlefield and the rest into your graveyard. You may have those creatures become Plant Dragon creatures with base power and toughness 11/7, flying, vigilance, and haste.

---

Ruthless Ultimatum
Each other player loses a third of their life, then discards a third of the cards in their hand, then sacrifices a third of the permanents they control. Round up each time.

---

Shining Ultimatum
Search your library and/or your graveyard for up to two multicolored cards with different names and up to one monocolored card and exile them. An opponent chooses one of those cards. Shuffle that card into your library. You may cast the other cards without paying their mana costs.

---

Reflective Ultimatum
Choose five permanents. For each of those permanents, creates a token that's a copy of it.

---

Liana Web Nexus
Separate all permanents target player controls into two piles. You gain control of all permanents in the pile of their choice.

---

PhD in Evil Science
Shuffle your graveyard into your library. You draw ten cards. You get an emblem with "You have no maximum hand size" and "When a permanent named Vlaryk, the Overgrown enters the battlefield under your control, if he's not a token, exile him, then return him to the battlefield transformed and unfolded under his owner's control."

---

Pernicious Puppeteering
Target opponent takes two extra turns after this one. You control that player during those turns.

---

Hydra Garden
Create X X/X Plant Hydra creature tokens that are black, green, and blue, where X is the number of lands you control.

---

Sporegorger Dragon
Target opponent creates a 7/7 Plant Nightmare Dragon creature token that is black, green and blue with flying, trample and "When this creatures enters the battlefield, exile all other permanents you control" and "When this creature leaves the battlefield, return the exiled cards to the battlefield under their owners' control."

---

Dying Star, Shadow Gigaflare
Each opponent chooses an artifact, a creature, an enchantment, and a planeswalker from among the nonland permanents they control, then sacrifices the rest.

---

Quasar Convergence, Corundum Citrine Collapse
Each other nontoken nonland permanent's controller sacrifices it. Each player discards their hand. You create a 0/2 green Plant creature token with reach and defender for each card put into a graveyard this way.

---

Nemesis Pulsar, Omega Flare Star
Destroy all nonland permanents you don't control. For each permanent destroyed this way, its controller creates a 1/1 green Saproling creature token.

---

Regenesis Star, Oblivion Teraflare
Exile all other permanents on the field and all cards from all players' hands and graveyards. Each player creates a number of 0/2 green Plant creature tokens with reach and defender equal to the total mana values of the cards they own exiled this way plus the number of land cards they own exiled this way. Restart the game, leaving all creature tokens on the battlefield and leaving in exile all cards exiled by this ability. You may search your library and/or among cards you own in exile for a legendary card that can be a commander and put it into your command zone. That card becomes your commander in addition to your original one. If you search your library this way, shuffle it.

---

Ultimate Ultimatum
Choose three of Vlaryk's other Ultimate abilities.

EDIT: New Vlaryk Abilities:

Special Ability:
Semislug-Leaved Nepenthes Carousel
If an effect would create one or more tokens under your control, it creates triple that many of those tokens instead that enter battlefield tapped and don't untap during your next untap phase.

---

Ultimate:
Bloat-Pitcher Nepenthes Burst
Create X X/X black, green, and blue Plant creature tokens named Nepenthes Pitcher-Plant, where X is the number of tokens you control with different art.

---

Multi-Nepenthes Tree Multimatum
For each player, create an X/X black, green, and blue Plant creature token named Nepenthes Pitcher-Plant, where X is the number of cards in that player's library.
For each player, create an X/X black, green, and blue Plant creature token named Nepenthes Pitcher-Plant, where X is the number of cards in that player's graveyard.

Rulings:
-Note that Vlark's Special Effect, Plus, Minus, and Ultimate cards themselves never enter the game as objects that can be interacted with; they are not put onto the battlefield or the stack. Instead, the ability printed on the card enters the stack as an object (if applicable).
-If an effect would bring one of these cards into the game, it remains outside the game.
-Vlaryk's loyalty abilities reference his Plus, Minus, and Ultimate cards, but do not put those cards onto the stack or into the game.
-Vlaryk's loyalty abilities themselves are regular loyalty abilities and can be responded to once they are on the stack.
-The timing for choosing the Plus/Minus/Ultimate ability is like any other modal spell or ability. Once you have chosen the ability, its modes and targets (if any), and paid the cost (removing/placing loyalty counters), you regain priority, and now players can respond to the chosen ability before it resolves, just like any other ability.
-Some of Vlaryk's loyalty abilities require target(s). If you select an ability that has no legal target, you choose again at random from the remaining abilities until you choose one that is legal.
-If you choose an ability that is legal, you must use that ability even if you may not want to.
-Vlaryk doesn't actually have all of it abilities listed on the card itself. If Nicol Bolas, Dragon-God copies and activates one of Vlaryk's loyalty abilities, he would refer to himself and the ability will read "Choose one of Nicol Bolas's Plus/Minus/Ultimate abilities". Since Nicol Bolas does not have a set of Ability cards associated with him, the ability does nothing.

Each ability card has a label that helps indicate what kind of ability it is. For example, an ability which triggers during each player's upkeep would have "Each Upkeep" printed below the name, while an ability that triggers only during your upkeep would be labelled "Your Upkeep."

Similarly, Plus and Minus abilities will also be labelled clearly, usually with the timing of their effects listed at the top ("Until end of turn", "Until you next turn", etc).

Some associated cards:

Nyles the Nepenthes
3bgu
Legendary Creature - Plant (R)
Eminence - As long as Nyles the Nepenthes is in the command zone or on the battlefield, whenever a non-Saproling creature you control dies, create a 1/1 green Saproling creature token.
Whenever a nontoken permanent enters the battlefield under your control, create X 0/2 green Plant creature tokens with reach and defender, where X is that permanent's mana value.
4/7

Xyles, Nepenthes Gourmand
2bgu
Legendary Creature - Plant (R)
Food tokens you control are also 0/2 green Plant creatures in addition to their other colors and types.
Whenever another nontoken creature you control dies, create a Food token.
Whenever you sacrifice a Food, create two 1/1 green Saproling creature tokens.
ub, Sacrifice a Food or another creature: Draw a card.
3/7

Pran, Predatory Pitcher-Plant
1{B}{G}{U}
Legendary Creature - Plant (R)
1{B}, Sacrifice another creature: You draw a card and lose 1 life.
1{G}, Sacrifice another creature: You gain 3 life.
1{U}, Sacrifice another creature: Tap or untap target permanent.
3/4

Purra, Perfumed Pitcher-Plant
1{B}{G}{G}{U}
Legendary Creature - Plant (M)
At the beginning of your upkeep, return a Plant or Insect creature card from your graveyard to the battlefield tapped.
Whenever a nontoken permanent you control with one or more colors is put into the graveyard from the battlefield, for each of its colors create a 1/1 green Saproling creature token.

I can legitimately only ask why - you must have spent a tremendous amount of effort on this, but I don't think it would even be possible to implement in a digital game without people getting frustrated that it's a card that nobody knows what it does.
Psst, check the second page of Custom Card Contests & Games! Because of the daily contests, a lot of games fall down to there.

I forgot to mention that this was also inspired by Hearthstone (which is online only); there's an eldritch entity named Yogg-Saron, Hope's End that when it enters the battlefield, casts a random spell for EVERY spell you've cast so far.

The newer version, Yogg-Saron, Master of Fate, is somehow even worse; it has six possible effects, one of which is the above effect, while the other effects include summoning random creatures, filling your hand with free spells, and even casting a burn spell repeatedly until a player dies.

I was anticipating you might mention Yogg-Saron, and I have not played Hearthstone, but I have played Elder Scrolls: Legends, which has some similar types of effects.

What I understand about Yogg-Saron is that his effect casts a copy of a number of random spells selected from all existing spell cards in the game. In other words, while it is a card that has a completely "unknown" effect, it's also just a collection of cards that everyone has more or less seen before. One knows in a general sense what to expect. That is random, but only a bit more random than the likes of Warp World - it's still composed of something comprehensible, even easily understood.

What you posted is well beyond that.

Oh, I guess I should clarify that the Special Effect/Plus/Minus/Ultimate cards would be actual physical cards and replace one of the tokens in a booster pack at random. There will also be a Commander deck with all the Ability cards, and each one will have token on the other side.

You would separate the cards into their appropriate piles and select one at random as needed/instructed. Like a series of mini-planar decks. I should probably put this in the main post.

In a digital game, Vlaryk would come with all his ability cards, and you can view them any time.

EDIT: At any rate, some of those effects are strictly silver-bordered territory and can't be implemented anyway, so the digital implementation is moot.

Might as well add this here:

Nasty [] Nepenthes Monster, Noya
2{B}{G}{U}
Host [] Creature - Plant <[Legendary]
When this creature enters the battlefield, at random
========================================
choose one:
-Create Lush Pitcher-Plant, a 2/3 green Plant host creature token with "When this creature enters the battlefield, create a 1/1 green Saproling creature token."
-Create Garden Slug, a 1/5 black Slug host creature token with "When this creature enters the battlefield, exile target card from a graveyard. You gain 1 life."
-Create [Slimy], a blue +1/+1 blue Salamander creature token with hexproof, augment, and "[, Discard a card:]", then combine it with a host.
2/3

Note 1: I decided to make it random otherwise the optimal play every time is to choose [Slimy] first to give Noya hexproof.

Note 2: The art would be the inverse of other host creatures; Noya's "head" (or whatever passes for a front end) would be to the right, while its posterior pokes through the portal on the left. So adding any augment card gives the impression of a two-headed monster.

Note 3: Once Noya is augmented, the ability is no longer random, as that text would be covered up by the augment half.

Emrakul, Legalities Banned

Legendary Creature - Eldrazi (M)
When you cast this spell, players play a Magic subgame, each player starting at one third of their life total, rounded up, and using their libraries as their decks. Each player who doesn't win the subgame skips their next turn in the main game. Then if you win the subgame, take an extra turn after this one in the main game.
Flying, protection from nonsilver borders, from Beebles and from Squirrels
If the game would end in a draw, instead you win the game if it's not a subgame.

Well, it's a good thing I posted Vlaryk before Strixhaven; Witherbloom and Quandrix fulfill all my Sultai token dreams.

I'll just keep this thread for general stuff.

Vlaryk's Real Command
2bgu
Instant (R)
Choose two-
-Counter target spell without a pitcher-plant in its art.
-Target player draws two cards and loses 2 life.
-Return target creature or planeswalker and each other permanent with that character in its art to their owners' hands.
-Create a 2/3 black and green Insect creature token with flying named Butterfly.

Note: For the command's third mode, the other permanents that show the same character need not be the same permanent type as the target permanent. Targeting Jace Beleren, for example, will also bounce Jace, Vryn's Prodigy, Ixalan's Binding, and even Jace's Projection.

Also, nonlegendary creatures are eligible for the effect, as long as there is a strong argument that the characters depicted are the same. For example, targeting Boggart Loggers will allow you to bounce Boggart Arsonists, since the flavor text indicates the characters depicted are the same. Similarly, targeting Defiant Ogre will bounce Marsh Hulk, because while it is not explicitly stated, the flavor text strongly implies that it is the same character.

However, if Defiant Ogre would reprinted as an Ogre in Ravnica, then targeting it will not bounce the Marsh Hulk from Tarkir.

Vlaryk's Real Charm
bgu
Instant (U)
Choose one-
-Put three -1/-1 counters on target creature.
-Create three 1/1 green Saproling creature tokens.
-Draw three cards, then discard three cards.
