Mila, Crafty Companion // Lukka, Wayward Bonder does have a lot going on. That emblem is no joke and not that hard to ultimate.
It is a bit of a flavor fail that Mila can't actually protect Lukka :(
Lukka couldn't protect his companion in the past either. 😏

I'd love to see some white "taxing" ability involving drawing cards. Consider the new keyword "ward" suits white's protective nature perfectly, perhaps a card granting "Ward: You draw a card" would be nice, even "Ward: You draw two cards."

Unfortunately, due to how Ward is constructed, it'd have to be templated counterintuitively. Ward gives an additional cost *your opponent* has to pay, so "Ward: Draw a Card" would reward them for targeting it. "Ward: An opponent draws a card" would have multiplayer issues, and even if we went as far as "Ward: This creature's controller draws a card", which is already clunky, there might be some rules issues with drawing a card as a cost. The easiest way to do it would be to split it into its own ability: Give the card Ward: 0 or some non-trivial cost, and then a triggered ability that says "when an opponent pays the ward cost for this creature, draw a card".

Interesting that we got a monowhite, nonconditional hexproof instant (Beaming Defiance). I run Blossoming Defense and Lazotep Plating in some decks; while this has negatives compared to both, I will try it in, at the very least, Killian.

Now that you mentioned it... Blossoming Defense is actually cheaper than Beaming Defiance? I wonder why...

Because... Green.

And Heroic Intervention is cheaper than Rootborn Defenses, Unbreakable Formation, and Make a Stand...

And also grants hexproof, and protects non-creatures, in the color that should only care about creatures... while White, the color that cares about artifacts, enchantments, and planeswalkers - and is the literal color of protection - can't.

Oh my... is it just me, or is Plumb the Forbidden just ridiculously insane?

The only card that has card draw as a cost is Psychic Vortex, and it becomes hilarious with dredge.

They tried doing that with Shah of Naar Isle, but ended up with that version, so spot on.

For Beaming Defiance in particular and not excusing white continually getting the short end of the stick when it comes to EDH, there were probably limited concerns thanks to magecraft. Any cheap instant already has a chance to be a combat trick in this set so the ones at common need to be dialed back a little from what they would usually be.

On other new cards, Plumb the Forbidden seems great. Basically a cheaper, instant Reprocess in the right list and cantrips as a floor. I really like that it plays around countermagic somewhat, which would otherwise be a significant risk when you're sacrificing a bunch of creatures as an additional cost. The in-set synergies with magecraft could be worth something too, though I haven't gone deep on those options yet.

Harness Infinity

*heavy breathing*

EDIT: Search for Blex is insane. A draw 5 in the command zone that can also fuel graveyard shenanigans? Sheeeeeeit, Golgari Spellslinger might just work now.

kinda want a foil Daemogoth :3 the numbers are big and the death trigger is a neat swing too. a possibly too greedy thing to put in a Colfenor deck says I! Love everything about the card except the casting cost; mixing hybrid and standard mana symbols always looks a little headachy to me!

I really like Beledros! The land untap is kinda unnecessary, but I'll take it. I love per upkeep token generators!

Beledros Witherbloom might go into my Korvold deck. So that's cool.

I really like Beledros Witherbloom. Even without significant lifegain in the deck, untapping once can be all you need to close the game. I'll put him (her?) into the dragon pile for my The Ur-Dragon deck and hope to someday draw it alongside Dragon Broodmother for maximum cuteness. :P

Callous Bloodmage is also a really nice addition to black decks. I see it as a superior version of Agent of Erebos (unless you have an enchantment subtheme).

Beledros is going to be a new home for 'Golgari/B/G pet cards that didn't fit any other deck', since all build-around Beledros really needs is a more-than-average pile of ramp, and cards that care about creatures which is... a very hefty chunk of cards in that color combo. Conveniently, I also don't have a deck that leans heavily on mana dorks yet...

Overall, I'm liking the flavor of the set being lighter-than-usual, and a lot of the individual cards are interesting. Beledros was the first legendary that said 'build me now', though.

I was just wondering what to use Natural Order/Magus of the Order to fetch in my deck and then they print a green creature which can untap all your land =P as usual, Golgari legends are good.

Final day of preview season (I think), but still getting some cool stuff.
  • Jadzi, Oracle of Archavios is fascinating. You can potentially chain instants / sorceries with Jadzi's magecraft ability, and the fail case of ramp isn't bad either. Meanwhile, the flip side is a massive Exploration effect, assuming you have sufficient lands in hand. It's arguably a little generic in its 'ramp / draw cards' payoff... but at eight mana (and three on the flip side), it really makes you think, which is sort of the point of Quandrix. I guess best-case scenario, you cast Journey to the Oracle on turn 3, ramp up to eight lands, discard a card to recur to hand, then cast your 8-drop on turn 4? Might end up being broken, but definitely interesting.
  • Pillardrop Warden is woefully overcosted, but I like the effect. As I've mentioned in the past, I'm a fan of more white recursion.
  • Beledros Witherbloom is alright. Pseudo-Channel is strong, and fueled by the token production ability.
  • Blex, Vexing Pest is sort of cute. Moonlight Bargain in the command zone is also interesting, and enables some strong card advantage... if you have enough life to pay.
  • Harness Infinity is sweet for any self-mill deck. I think I favor Praetor's Counsel - if you have a large enough graveyard to be worth recurring, you're probably going to be discarding a lot to hand size.... but that may also be a bit too win-more.
  • Sedgemoor Witch is mildly interesting as a token producer / Young Pyromancer variant in black.
  • Deadly Brew is Innocent Blood // Road of Return, which is a solid combination.
  • Daemogoth Titan is a big demon with downside, for decks that care about creature size. Similar story for Daemogoth Anguish-Eater.
  • The Biblioplex is... interesting. Calls back to Library of Alexandria and Sea Gate Wreckage. Conditional and only getting instants / sorceries makes me a little hesitant about it, but the ability to mill the card means you can still use it as filtering, which is nice. Worth testing, at least.
  • Plumb the Forbidden looks excellent. Comparable to Village Rites, but scales waaaaay better at the cost of life.
  • (edit) Oriq Mythmage is a repeatable Entomb. If you can't break that, you're not trying. I suppose there are already a few similar entomb-on-ETB creatures though, and needing to tap is a significant cost.

Beaming Defiance is not going into any of my decks. Not with Shelter, Gods Willing, Emerge Unscathed and even Feat of Resistance being around.

Jadzi, Oracle of Archavios looks pretty ridiculous at medium powered tables. Sure, she costs 8, but maximizing Journey to the Oracle doesn't sound all that hard to me.

It will be easy as heck in something like Aesi.
