Which is ironic, because W and R had a long history of cards relate to excavation, yet here they speak as if it was never done before.

I think Osgir, the Reconstructor is definitely a step in the right direction. He's an artefact-centric commander for Boros that is not tied to vehicules (Depala, Pilot Exemplar) nor equipment (Akiri, Fearless Voyager) and is not focused on pumping creatures for combat (Jor Kadeen, the Prevailer).
WotC was blinded by Ravnica's popularity and stopped thinking further on WR, the color combo had always been more complicated than Boros in Ravnica 2&3. If anything, I'm waiting on a WR commander focuses on artifact/enchantment combo.

This is a Feather moment, where we see a completely new thing from Boros builds. I also love how this interacts with Mana Crypt (tap float 2, sac float 1, tap Olgir for 0, you now have a ritual for 5 colorless).

It's even better than a ritual since you get to keep the copies :P

They completed the worst set of enemy colored duals. They are just trolling us because they know the Tangos and Bi-cycles are better lands. Maybe they want to incentivize the use of the common basic-typed duals, but still. Are they used in standard, because I wouldn't know.

I had been hoping for a Boros guy one day that sacced artifacts itself (Wellspring shenanigans!). With this guy I can say "old and busted...two hotness" every time I use that second ability, too.

Couldn't agree more. Ravnica was the worst thing that ever happened to WR. WR has plenty of mechanical overlap but for every Gerrard, Weatherlight Hero or Feather the Redeemed we get 35 Boros legends.

My dream for WR has always been a low cost legend that taxes or prevents searches and tutoring or one involving targeted non-basic land hate. Basically a cranked up hatebear. I don't know if we'll ever get there, but at least there seems to be acknowledgement now that all WR isn't just Boros.

That new Faithless Looting archive art looks like a weird photoshop. I'm not entirely convinced the figure isn't just cropped in with the details in a top layer. Very strange art direction relative to the others...

Edit for clarity

i adore the art :3 and I guess the archive is the perfect place to get peculiar; Looting's been printed at common more than once and its presence here doesn't introduce it to any formats besides Historic, so there's a supply of the card with classic fantasy art on it already.

Damn, I am disappoint. Learn seems like the perfect sideboard mechanic that doesn't completely open the floodgates.

Agreed, we might need to see all the Lessons before judging how dangerous this can be, but on paper, it seems like a nice, controlled way of playing with sideboards (and there is already some kind of precedent with the Companions).

it still weirds me out that wishing is not a part of commander. my wish is that the people in charge valued the "format where you can play whatever card you like" aspect higher than the "one hundred cards exactly! unless you've got a companion" part

I'm a bit more on the fence around that sort of thing. Like, if you want to play a 200-card Battle of Wits deck, that's fine, but every time we've seen the ground rules shifted, we get some new OP or goodstuff nuisance that can't be put back in the bottle. All learn takes is one or two OP Lessons, and we'll start seeing people running effectively a half-dozen or so tutors for it and spamming it every game. I remember being one of those people rooting for folks being able to stick both Brothers Yamazaki in the command zone, but when the rules got moved, we got Thrasios.

The thing is that wishes become "tutor for a hate card that I don't want to put in my 99". People have this notion that they could tutor something cool, but really it will just make graveyard decks cry.

For some reason I just think this art is so awesome!

It'd be really neat to have a 5c spell slinger deck running all these cards. By neat I mean "super pretty" but probably not fun to play with or against. xD

Discussion re: wishes / sideboards is probably better constrained to the rules discussion thread... but I'm still in favor of keeping wishes out of the format. The learn // lesson cards they've shown so far look pretty tame (and it is an excellent mechanic for best-of-1), but I think that having a blanket allowance for them would result in a lot of problems. Between Burning Wish, Glittering Wish, Cunning Wish, and Karn, the Great Creator, I think it would be correct to run wishes in almost every deck.... and I think that would be a net negative for the format.

I think the lessons are probably more interesting from a 'all colors have access to this effect now' standpoint than anything.

I can see my group doing a variant of EDH that allows lessons, but it's just one shared pile containing every lesson. The idea would be "spots are filling up fast!" and each lesson can only be learned once during a game.

In Wizards defense, you can artifact combo with Gerrard, Weatherlight Hero, and they gave us a Mardu enchantment commander in Ghen, Arcanum Weaver. I'm the guy who has 3 Mardu decks and no Boros decks, but I would love it if they made Nahiri, the Harbinger legal to use as a commander, or maybe a commander who gives you a treasure and/or lets you loot/draw when you play a Boros spell.
Current Decks
rg Morophon, the infinite Kavu Eowyn, human tribal Legolas, voltron control Wb Tymna/Ravos cleric tribal Neheb, Chicago Bulls tribal Ug Edric pauper

Retired Decks
Edgar Markov Kaalia, angel board wipes Ghen, prison Captain Sisay Ub Nymris, draw go Sarulf, voltron control Niv-Mizzet, combo Winota Sidisi, Zombie Tribal

Several years ago, wishes were allowed in my meta for a time, and this is exactly what they were used for: a bunch of specific answers, color-hosers and things like that which people didn't want to fit into their actual decks but which they liked being able to access as needed. It was terrible, and that experiment was quickly abandoned, and thankfully so.
I have 68 active EDH decks, with more in progress. I don't consider this a problem. Do you?
I am also one of those barbarians who enjoys winning by turning creatures sideways.

Yall, I'm not gonna scroll back to see for sure, but in case no one has brought it up before now, we need to talk about that Faithless Looting art, because good grief. I honestly thought it was a %$#% meme at first.

Also I'm a little pissed that Divine Gambit is a special printing. Its a pretty terrible card abd I think I'd be a little bummed to have that crop up in a pack.

There is an easy solution to that.... Don't buy packs ;)

But seriously...... packs are a trap. Buy the singles you want.

Completely my intent. I just think its a bad card and sticking it in alternate art as a deluxe piece does nothing to change that. 100% would prefer to see Path to Exile or...anything else tbh.

I buy boxes to support local stores. All the unused cards go to their MtG tutor program to help initiate new players.
