I just frigging love having a huge new list of generals I can play who are not required to engage in fisticuffs.

I'm not wild about the threat diversification posed by a new crop of non-creature value engines in the command zone. While Commander has a lot more versatile removal, I think we do need to be concerned about a collapse of functional interaction like in Modern, at least for certain archetypes.

Meh, the proliferation of over-the-top value engines against which removal is pointless have long since jumped that shark :)

Agreed. The most egregious offender spoiled thus far is Koma, Cosmos Serpent. Not the worst Simic commander of all time, just another in a long line of easily abused advantage engines. This one more for lockouts than anything else. Pretty ew, but I think that about most Simic these days.

Everything else here is capable of being dealt with with a fairly minimal risk of persistence or minimal aggravation if you can't.

Cosima, God of the Voyage came so close to me caring. If it didn't have to hit the table first, and then survive a turn cycle, it might actually be worth playing. It could have had 2U: Exile from hand. Instead it's an instant hard pass. Sad.

Oh my, she's speedboat tribal, I love her. And I'm pretty sure god side and the Omenkeel both count as the same commander damage, that looks great! She's dumb in wondrous, boaty ways.

It annoys me slightly that in a set with Phyrexians, the card that gives poison counters isn't one, but Fynn seems quite good in Hapatra infect.

Well I can't say I expected a poison/deathtouch tribal legend in this set, that's for sure. I think he's pretty neat.

Glorious Guardian is super sweet. Probably going into at least my ETB deck.

Wow. That is...seriously cash money. Flash, flying, really nice body? I would not have complained if that was the white mythic. Definitely putting that into Ephara.

Glorious guardian is a stellar white card for EDH. If you play it in response to a Cyclonic Rift, all your creatures enter the battlefield and you get the guardian back in your hand. It protects from board wipes, even those that exile or give all creatures -x/-x, in a way that Flawless Maneuver doesn't.

Even if it's not used in response to a board wipe, it still has tremendous value. In my cleric tribal deck I could play the angel, exiling Skemfar Shadowsage, War Priest of Thune, Orzhov Pontiff, Solemn Simulacrum, and/or Massacre Wurm, and then I could sacrifice the angel using Pyre of Heroes, Yawgmoth, Thran Physician, Sidisi, Undead Vizier, Altar of Dementia, Diabolic Intent, Ayli, Eternal Pilgrim, Phyrexian Tower, or Starlit Sanctum, and then return Glorious Guardian to my hand with Ravos, Soultender.
Current Decks
rg Morophon, the infinite Kavu Eowyn, human tribal Legolas, voltron control Wb Tymna/Ravos cleric tribal Neheb, Chicago Bulls tribal Ug Edric pauper

Retired Decks
Edgar Markov Kaalia, angel board wipes Ghen, prison Captain Sisay Ub Nymris, draw go Sarulf, voltron control Niv-Mizzet, combo Winota Sidisi, Zombie Tribal

Definitely makes me think I might wanna be on another sac outlet, even if it's just High Market, in Ephara.

I feel like all these sagas basically wanna be in the same deck. Can run Replenish in a Tayam shell and see what happens?

I love Glorious Guardian . It's like having an extra Lumbering Battlement at instant speed. I also like the White is getting to save itself from it's own effects like mass removal AND protecting itself. More please.

I'm so bored of the blink decks I build.... but I love the blink decks. *starts crying and cackling madly*

Colossal Plow is a kind of exciting card, for White specifically. I wonder how this works mechanically for White in its part of the pie. This seems sorta generic minus the attacking part. Still, glad to see new space in White being explored.

Edit: I was going to comment on how White is supposed to have those second or more combat effects, but Red has them all (excluding Waves of Aggression technically), but this works really well with all the usual suspects like Aggravated Assault.

Yeah, plowing seems like an interesting mechanic for white. Pairs well with boast.

Yeah, white's technically secondary in extra combats, but it's an ability they use so rarely (like if another color was secondary in Time Warp) it really only comes up in hybrid and multicolor cards. It would be cool to get a mono-white extra combat card, but since they only print about 1 extra combat card a year at most, it's probably going to be quite the wait.

Several interesting white cards today.
  • Colossal Plow is... ramp? For white? Crew 6 is a really steep cost, but a two mana artifact that generates three mana is certainly abusable. I don't think it's good, but it's worth consideration if you find yourself with a pretty wide board, or have vehicle synergies.
  • Ascent of the Worthy is a bit slow, but it's also a three mana reanimation effect, which we don't see that often.
  • Glorious Guardian looks excellent. Will definitely be running it in Brago. Flash gives it a ton of utility over Lumbering Battlement - protects your board, flickers your team, etc.
  • Master Skald isn't particularly efficient, but I can't think of many other white creatures that return an artifact or enchantment to hand on ETB. Looks like just Trusty Retriever and Custodi Squire? Auramancer and Trusty Packbeast can recur one, but not the other.
  • Contagious Fear is mildly interesting as an asymmetric board wipe. I'm usually not a big fan of -3/-3 effects, but missing some of your own creatures is nice.
  • Littjara Mirrorlake is a clone effect on a land. Mirrorpool didn't end up seeing that much play, so this may be a miss, but generating colored mana (and not requiring colorless) is certainly relevant.
  • Fynn, the Fangbearer seems like yet another 'we're going back to New Phyrexia' plant.
  • Arachnoform confuses me. Why does turning something into a spider give it every creature type?
  • Battle Mammoth does a reasonable Shapers' Sanctuary impression, drawing cards when your stuff gets targeted. Seems reasonable.

Maja, Bretagard Protector is ... okay, I guess? But we have better landfall and token commanders, even in Selesnya.

Frost Augur is Scrying Sheets as a creature, don't think, this is good enough.

Arni Brokenbrow is weirdly interesting as are many legends in Kaldheim.

Weird set is weird. Kaldheim feels really overstuffed with themes: Snow, Foretell and Boast, Sagas, MDFC, Gods, Tribal, Vehicles, Shapeshifters. This feels more like it could have been an old block like Onslaught or maybe a 2-set-block. I'm not entirely sure, if I like it.

I would have liked to see multiple sets on Kaldheim because there is so much to explore of this plane. Not sure if all these cards would have been split up, but it would be neat if the uncommon and rare sagas were in different sets (to show stories arising over time).

Guidepost legends are cool, as are the uncommon lands with the big sac abilities. I like so much of this set and want to own so many of these cards....though I'm not even sure what new decks I would make or what I would slot into my old decks. Maybe it's a part of visiting a new plane. Generally I felt more excited about Eldraine than Theros/Zendikar because we've spent so much time on the latter two.

Cosmos Elixir Seems like a good static card, though I wish it cost 3 W instead of 4. Could be decent draw if you play life gain, but this will most likely fine a home in xWB decks as something cheaper than other stuff like Phyrexian Arena.
