snow duals are gorgeous, snow's one of my things already and those Coldsnap duals really weren't good enough.
I know I'm buying a common playset of Kaldheim now :3

Kaldheim seems a set with good power level. That tutor demon is surely good. I hope they will print some interesting commanders.

Archelos, Lagoon Mystic has a lot of fun snow cards in his colors already, so tapped snow lands will be no issue!
Mirri, Cat Warrior counts as a Cat Warrior.

The tutor guy looks mildly obnoxious, I think we'll see another wave of combo/control black, like when Sidisi came out.

PSA. If you steal a Tibalt, Cosmic Impersonator, be aware that it will not work out the way you want it to...

I am guessing the new Tibalt can be a commander (front side is legendary creature)
And that even though the front card is monoblack the CI would be BR

If so, step aside Mogis, I have a new commander for my creatureless Panharmonicon deck.
Yes, and yes.

So freaking good. Best thing to happen to lands for the average deckbuilder pretty much ever.

New Tibalt is awesome, mostly because I was seriously bamboozled by the front card. On another note Masked Vandal is everything I didn't know that I wanted. 2CMC changeling with ETB artifact/enchantment removal? Enchantment/artifact hate is a huge weakness in my tribal tribal deck, I literally could not have designed a better card for my deck. Slamming this card so hard. So long Impostor of the Sixth Pride you will not be missed.

Wheeee, new stuff.
  • Snow duals are awesome. I'll have to check which of my decks want them, but powering up stuff like Keeper of Progenitus, HIgh Tide, and Skyshroud Claim is certainly nice. I definitely appreciate that they have the full cycle and not just the ally-colored ones.
  • Valki, God of Lies is an interesting Brain Maggot variant with a bit of additional shapeshifting utility. Scaling into the lategame as Tibalt is a very splashy and powerful ability. Seven mana is a little steep, but given how much card advantage he generates and the additional flexibility, it's not that unreasonable.
  • Masked Vandal looks very strong. Usually not active on turn 2 - you won't be sniping many Sol Rings - but a two mana Reclamation Sage that exiles is extremely valuable, and looks like a snap include in many creature-heavy decks.
  • Alrund, God of the Cosmos looks reasonable. Gets beefy, draws cards, can be a bird in the early game.
  • Binding the Old Gods looks reasonable, and I may give it a shot in Tasigur. One extra mana over Maelstrom Pulse to also ramp out a forest seems decent.
  • Phyrexian Vorinclex, Monstrous Raider is sweet. I don't love it quite as much as the Phyrexian Elesh Norn, but still cool.

Ok now I need to brew phyrexian tribal with Morophon, the Boundless since it's offical confirmed now

I hope 90% of the phyrexian creatures that get the errata don't spike because of that

Fecthable snow duels besides entering tapped (which can be loopholed by a few cards) this is the gonna be the first ever auto include for ever edh deck that's enter tapped regardless (besides the triomes)

Curtain. FRED and STEVE need to come up with something cool for Kaldheim.

STEVE: It's a brilliant plan, I'm telling you!
FRED: I don't know, man, isn't the set already full to the brim with random stuff? We are rocking ten creature tribes, we're rocking five human factions, snow mana, foretell...
STEVE: A lot of that is handled by the type line. What do you care if the piece of limited chaff is a troll or a spirit or whatever? Same with snow, we can stick that in a few type lines and we've got snow in the set. Plus haven't we done random misfit planeswalkers for years? Come on!
FRED: ...but a praetor? Here? On top of all that stuff and gods and whatnot? Why?
STEVE: ...why not?
FRED: ...okay I got nothing, you seem set on this. Let's humour the idea, worst case we'll kick it from the file. What you got in mind?
STEVE: When in doubt, green. New Vorinclex! What's a beloved green effect we can stick on him?
FRED: Mana doub-no wait, the original had that. What else is there... Doubling Season!
STEVE: Boom, we're on fire over here! But the praetors have that whole "I get a thing, you lose a thing" going on. Do we halve the enemy gains to keep up this tradition?
FRED: Certainly. Seems a bit good for five mana like the original, let's make it cost six.
STEVE: Solid call. Also, as mentioned, type line. Let's bust out the Phyrexian, people will go crazy for that.
Vorinclex 2.0 gets typed into file.
STEVE: Which way do we round the enemy gains?
FRED's eyes contort malevolently.
FRED: Down. I've got a Daxos deck I need to crush.

Curtain.

Thoughts on other stuff:
  • Koll, the Forgemaster is the best sort of Boros card. I feel that strong recursion is a good way to help grant card advantage, and the conditions on this guy incentivise interesting board states with potentially slightly scattered equipment to avoid wrath blow-outs. Hoping for more recursion'y stuff in white to follow.
  • The templating on Elvish Warmaster is aggressively terrible. Why couldn't it just have been something along the lines of "when an Elf enters the battlefield under your control for the first time each turn, make a body"? Also doesn't that "enters" sound weird? Just me?
  • The snow duals make me happy. I am considering adding them to my chiselled 2c enemy mana bases for pure fetchability alone, to Daxos in particular. Rampant Hawk can nab this and it'll serve as a swamp for things that care about that, and I can burn an early fetch to grab it without much tempo loss. Around the time JMP came out I was whining about the lands there not getting a type for easy budget fetchability, these are decent budget fetchables instead.

I'm going to infer that Warmaster is templated this way so it can trigger off elves entering the battlefield after it - if it only triggered off the first elf each turn, then it wouldn't trigger if you had another elf enter previously. Hard for me to say how relevant that is, but if you're elfballing with Glimpse of Nature, getting extra elves after Warmaster is certainly relevant.

....I'll second the confusion re: why Vorinclex is showing up though. It's probably foreshadowing for a return to New Phyrexia, similar to Dark Intimations and the other Bolas foreshadowing leading up to War of the Spark. I suppose Elspeth being released also is a bit of foreshadowing on that front. There could be some story implications for Kaldheim (ex: Phyrexians triggering the local equivalent of Ragnarok), but still weird.

Will be interesting to see what gets errata'd to be Phyrexian though. My assumption would be 'every creature with Phyrexian in its name, and many creatures with a Phyrexian watermark', but the blasphemous non-Phyrexian Consecrated Sphinx stops all of them being errata'd. Any creature that costs Phyrexian mana or has infect is probably a reasonable guess though.

I know they're gonna get hated on since the EtB Tapped, but fetchable snow duals is awesome for budget players. Goes a long way towards letting pleebs play base-green 3+ Color decks utilizing Farseek, Nature's Lore, Skyshroud Claim, Wood Elves, and now Into the North as ultimate fixing.
I think these are a great addition. I'd say these are some of the better ETB tapped lands I have seen in a while. I would likely play these over the gain lands that gain a life. I'd likely be able to find some sort of land type synergy in every multicolor combo to make these more playable over "gain 1 life" or even "scry 1". The Temples are good for budget, but these lands at common are very exciting to see. I'll be picking up some of these to have.

PDH finally has duals to search off Wood Elves and Farseek. I should pick up a couple copies of Into the North.

Yeah, this is almost certainly the reason. There's also potiential confusion issues with what "first time each turn" is referring to: While it would be unlikely to trip up most players, it would be possible to read Rumpy's proposed version as asking whether the *particular elf* is entering the battlefield for the first time, not whether or not any other elves have also entered. I'm also not sure the interaction Rumpy's version would have with multiple elves entering at the same time. If you cast Canopy Ambush with him out, there's 5 triggers, each of which entered the battlefield at the same time. So which one's first? Or are they all first? Which would obviously have power level implications.

Honestly, not sure I see enough reason not to make Consecrated Sphinx into a "Phyrexian Sphinx". Phyrexians seem to come from a variety of body type bases (see the variety of Phyrexian Gargantua's out there), and there's no reason that, like Zombie, Phyrexian couldn't be a modifier to another type.

Agreed. I've mostly phased the gainlands out of decks outside of a few budget/lifegain synergy builds, but I still run the Temples and I'd say I prefer these in any deck with W or G. It's also nice because my collection is random - for instance, I own five Temple of Mystery but only one Temple of Enlightenment. Having a really consistent dualland at common to just hoard copies of for future WUx decks feels good.

I guess I can see why this is done so weirdly now. Let's assume a hypothetical Glimpse chain or whatever, and this guy comes midway through, and you want to keep rolling. Some elegant way of trying to phrase the simpler angle like "whenever one or more other Elves enter the battlefield for the first time" would suddenly not do anything. Okay, fine, mystery solved :P

The issue with Consecrated Sphinx is specifically the secret lair version, which is specifically not Phyrexian.

On another note, Reflections of Littjara looks intriguing for any blue tribal deck. Flameshadow Conjuring is already a strong effect, and getting the token permanently seems strong, even if it is limited to just one tribe.

I'm pretty confident they won't let that stop them. But we'll have to see!

Really? I'm curious how long it'll take until the european buyouts begin.
Jan 8th at 00:00 CEST they are still at 0,35€/0,43€/0,68€ respectively at the three stores on cardmarket that offer them im bulk in Germany.

Masked Vandal is a card that I might be most excited about. A Revoke Existence on a stick that is also a Changeling is amazing, and while it isn't active on Turn 2 on average that won't be a huge deal. I want to run it everywhere.

Behold the Multiverse is also of interest to me - a few weeks ago I remember a thread where folks debated Hieroglyphic Illumination versus Chemister's Insight for their Inspiration of choice, and I noted that I take Glimmer of Genius over either sometimes even sans energy synergy - this seems even better thanks to the installment plans, and while it still doesn't replace good ol' Fact or Fiction I suspect I'm going to end up playing it a lot.

Many of the sites I checked were sold out, and listings on TCG Player were all of the "listed for 99 cents but shipping is $3" variety.

Hmmmm.... with just the new cycle of duals, I'm still not entirely sold on Into the North. Arctic Flats and friends already exist, so the new duals don't suddenly make it provide that much better fixing. There is certainly an upside for there being a lower opportunity cost in running the new cycle, but... IMO, the primary draw for running Into the North is access to the snow utility lands - Scrying Sheets and Dark Depths. If you're not running those, I'd skip on swapping out Farseek / Three Visits / Nature's Lore.

...still, if we get some more utility lands, Into the North will go up in value significantly. It's pretty close to strictly-better Farseek, which is certainly significant. Not a bad speculation, I suppose.

As an aside, given the current state of snow lands being strictly better than non-snow lands (hence why eternal formats have been infested with Arcum's Astrolabe and Ice-Fang Coatl), I'm going to contemplate whether there will be any snow hate printed. Snow-only Strip Mine could be interesting, although that may go against current design philosophy. Hmmm....
