Oh joy, more non-draft-booster cards that will be an annoying pain in the ass to acquire. My faaaaaavorite.
Is that what this is? Really, huh. How do you know this? Is there a watermark I'm missing or is in the collector number?

I never know what's going on anymore in terms of printings. It's honestly getting fairly frustrating.

Yeah, its the number. Rampage for example - 293/285.

It's even easier than that, since they don't put the "denominator" on the non-draftable cards. Though also the full art cards do this too, even if the regular version CAN appear in set boosters. Blerg.

Another easy way is to get spoilers from mythicspoiler, they keep them separated between normal cards and exclusives. Realmwalker and Magda are the only normal cards from today's spoilers.

I also dislike it strongly - but generally it hasn't seemed to make a card too hard to acquire. I got a Serpent of Yawning Depths for my sister-in-law's Sea Monster deck as a Christmas present and it was no more costly than any other card, really. I imagine it got another buck added to its cost for being exclusive, but it isn't like JumpStart where the top cards are outrageously out of control price wise due to low print runs.

I am super excited to see changelings come back with reasonable powered rares. When we got a dash of changeling back in Modern Horizons I was SOOOO pissed that it seemed to be one 5c mythic commander then there was like draft fodder. Seeing changelings that are single color can go a LONG way towards a lot of tribal decks that don't always get much for new additions. I am by far the most looking forward to any white ones for rebel purposes. I have been asking for something on that front for years now.

Crosses fingers and impatiently waits for more spoils.

Should definitely be good! Stuff like Realmwalker is extra nice, since it can even act as an extra "reward" for whatever tribe you're using, while also counting as a member of that tribe (which is a big step up from some of the other "choose a creature type" cards).

Kaya is interesting. The +1 is sorta meh - at 5 CMC, I'd have wanted something closer to Kaya's Ghostform. The -3 is of course great, not gonna complain about a -3 to Vindicate. The -7 is super spicy - manage to use it and suddenly you can just recast Kaya next upkeep if you want. It also is nutty with Ugin's Nexus and some other legendary cards - Urza's Ruinous Blast, for instance, basically creates infinite nuclear winter. It lets you rebuy Yawgmoth's Vile Offering and Mangara of Corondor too. All very interesting things. I suspect she'll be a superfriends staple, but I'm intrigued enough to try her out elsewhere.

Every new version of Kaya I'm kinda disappointed. Any other planeswalker I wouldn't be, but the original conspiracy design was SO FREAKING COOL. All the other versions have just been...fine, I guess?

Halvar, God of Battle is super sweet though. I love having a MDFC in the command zone, and neither side looks incredibly OP or anything but still look really interesting. I especially like the "equipment that's attached to a creature you control" clause, since it (1) prevents the most obvious build around of "throw in every equipment with a high equipment cost * cough Colossus Hammer cough * , and (2) potentially has interesting interactions with stealing equipment and moving it around, living weapon, etc. For example, Armory Automaton steals some nasty equipment, then you move it onto another of your creatures and get a hasty swing out of it. The sword side is less explosive-looking but I imagine there could be some pretty sweet things to do with it too. Overall I just really like the sandboxy design with a lot of directions to go in, none of which seem at first blush to be grossly OP.

Yeah, wow I really like that design for Halvar. Neither side is busted, they both have uses and the flavour is juicy thicc. I really like.

At the beginning of each combat is always a great clause too. You can really min/max for optimal results each combat if its needed, or just take advantage of that double strike clause to the max.

Really, really cool design. This set is looking exciting.

My favorite part of Halvar, God of Battle isn't what he has, but what he is missing. No indestructible, no The Scarab God reanimation, no Ilharg, the Raze-Boar inevitability, no devotion to make it attack and block. Norse gods fight when they want. And Norse gods die.

I'm not huge on the alternate frames, but I really dig the treatment on Halvar as well. Gives me Skyrim nostalgia.

So am I correct in assuming that if Halvar is your commander you can cast him as a sword from the command zone? I like his design a lot, although nothing he does is particularly out of the ordinary for white he's a very interesting and flexible card for this format.

Having had a whole night to sleep on him, Halvar seems really solid. For 60-card Magic, he provides yet another solution to "oops I drew too many of my Legendary cards" and does so in a way that doesn't make him nonfunctional in EDH like Grandeur might. From a 60-card and Commander perspective, he's also a neat solution to the problem most equipment decks I build or mess with have - how do you run enough equipment to make something like Sram, Senior Edificer or Armored Skyhunter consistent and also have a high enough creature count to actually use all those shiny swords and axes in the face of opposing answers and sweepers? His actual text on both sides is a bit vanilla, but mechanically he's got a ton of upshot and I expect him to be a staple in Wx equipment decks. We'll see if having an equipment in the Command zone is worth using him over Sram, Nahiri, the Lithomancer, Ardenn, Intrepid Archaeologist // Akroma, Vision of Ixidor, or Balan, Wandering Knight in mono-white though - I suspect not and that he's better in the 99.

That is correct. He also won't do any commander damage though as an equipment (I only mention this because it is unusual for a commander to be an equipment).

Just because some people will try to do it for, idk, style points: He can do commander damage as an equipment, but only if the equipment is animated and the one doing combat damage, not if it's just attached to a creature.

He's certainly not going to be better than the W card draw engine commanders but I appreciate his flexibility. Having an equipment in the command zone is also just cool.

I don't actually care for Halvar, God of Battle at all as a commander, but I love the precedent he sets. Now we just need an actual good card, ideally with good colours, to take advantage of this design concept.
Commander
Golos, ETB Pilgrim - Value Town
Maelstrom Wanderer a.k.a. The Kool-Aid Man
Korvold, Fae-Cursed King - OM NOM NOM

I think he'll often be better as 1 of the 99 in equipment based decks. One of the balancing acts for them is always between running enough equipment to suit up your stuff, while also having enough dudes to suit up and payoffs if you're not going full Voltron. He's a solid mix of both, being a good value equipment that can also be a decent sized body that buffs your equipped creatures.

I did a little digging at Halvar, God of Battle as a commander and I think I am in agreement that as a commander, its probably not that spectacular. I tried doing some sort of ETB / Dies looping and in all he was just too inefficient in that white isn't great at ramping anyways. Paying two mana to equip and recasting the creature on top of that just adds up to be too much for a loops concept if you ask me.

I am not really sure beyond that. I don't love just making things stick around all that much. I think in the 60 card magic it might actually be better than as a commander. He probably fits into the 99 of a few decks and I think I do actually like it a decent bit as a versatile card for decks using equipment / auras.

Halvar, God of Battle looks fine to me. The front side's ability to move equipment around is somewhat interesting, but I would value Ardenn, Intrepid Archaeologist's ability to equip for free over the ability to equip during opponents' combats. Double strike is pretty useful, at least. On the flip side, Sword of the Realms looks interesting. Not the most efficient in terms of stats, but protecting creatures from removal (or enabling recursion shenanigans) is pretty nice. I can't think of many other mono-white commanders that can do something similar. Overall, I don't think either side is amazing, but it's possible I'm undervaluing the flexibility.

From a card design perspective, I appreciate that these flip-legends are playable as a 4-of in other formats. Being a more 'mortal' god is also nice, since it's consistently been the most obnoxious part of other gods. I'm also a sucker for flip cards in general. Plus, having an equipment as a commander seems sweet.

Kaya the Inexorable looks fine. Following the Ob Nixilis Reignited template - (+1) generates card advantage via token production / creature recursion. (-3) exiling any nonland permanent is really nice. (-7) is a little niche for an ultimate, but the base case is to just recur Kaya and exile a thing every few turns, which isn't bad. When you start building around it with Karn's Temporal Sundering or just cheating stuff out, it gets significantly more potent. I can't think of any Orzhov walkers with a comparable removal ability, so she seems worth testing out.

You don't think a repeatable, near-foolproof way to protect a creature from going to graveyard/exile will be good in Commander? Saving on tax seems like a big deal to me. Remeber Derevi? Sure, this is not as good, but still, the advantage is there. I mean, say you've already cast your general three times and you draw new Kaya. Doesn't matter if she dies right afterward, she's just saved you eight mana worth of tax. And that's in addition to her other abilities. Seems good to me.

Is there an Esper commander with flash? There's that one Teferi whose lets you use loyalty abilities instantly and during your opponents' turns, isn't there?

I'm not sure what to think about this card. It is aggressively costed and has the potential to be a repeated exile wipe that leaves nothing but itself and lands behind... but at the same time it seems both a bit clunky and little off as a Fenris analog, even as I appreciate the design.
I have 68 active EDH decks, with more in progress. I don't consider this a problem. Do you?
I am also one of those barbarians who enjoys winning by turning creatures sideways.

I mean...you could use Kaya's Ghostform and accomplish the same thing but with even more savings (save 3W up front, and then put the card directly back on the battlefield at no cost instead of to hand)? :P

Of course there's some other advantage here - Kaya is reusable if your opponent can't punch through to kill her. It's cute to maybe keep Ghostform tokening a Wall of Glare or something until you ultimate off. As you started alluding to, in Esper superfriends it's a little spicy to combo off with Oath of Teferi and Teferi, Temporal Archmage for infinite ghostform tokens. If you're in full durdle turtle mode, she can also spread the love and ghostform multiple permanents. She's also got the failstate of being a Vindicate which even at five isn't awful. I get why one might pay 3W more than Ghostform, but it just doesn't seem that useful to me.
