There are some really fun designs. I really like Obeka :

Holy crap, an actual Reprint of Three Visits!?
This has long been overdue.

Liesa sounds horrible, tbh.

Thalisse + Smothering Tithe and others seems absurd!

The Sultai Turtle legend will break so many things, lordy.

Yeah, the leaks are exciting, but they're also leaks. Keeping in tradition from when there were Ikoria leaks, let's use spoilers to talk about them?
Unofficial Spoiler Discussion
  • Compendium of leaks for those so inclined.
  • There's some genuinely badass design space being explored here. Walkers with partner, kooky off-colour stuff like Ich-Tehik (try that with Smothering Tithe! :P ). Obeka has the feel of a half-baked science fair project, which is the best sort of feel for a fun jank deck.
  • At the same time, nothing that's been revealed yet reeks of being broken in half, which is good. Gavin mentioned they took ages to make sure the partners wouldn't break anything, and I guess the same extends to the other things. At first glance, neither Obeka nor the turtle are busted. The latter's command zone Kismet seems disruptive, but he lacks a mechanism to break stax orb parity to really make use of it.
  • Hell yeah Three Visits, it's been way too long. This year's good for PR between this and the Grim Tutor. Notice the Staff of Domination reprint, that thing's money too.
  • Ironically, the new card I'm most excited for is Esior. Time to dust off Tymna and go for Esper Edric? Might well be! Deck time!

Ich-Tehik could be partnered with Silas Renn, Seeker Adept for a Sultai artefact-themed deck with sac-and-recur and golem tribal subthemes, which is cool!

They come from Commander Legends Collector Booster Packs so yes, these are foil. You'll be able to play our goat lord in all its shining glittery glory.

And a draw engine in Black that partners no less. I can see this dude being very common, the grind value is insane and will open up Crats to a strong engine in various colour combos. Given an Izzet partner that makes tokens or other relevant ability, I'd be interested in brewing one for Grixis.

My biggest issue with planeswalker commanders and walkers archetypes is that they tend to slow down games a lot and play in such a way that draws games out for a long time. They often heavy on creature defenses and or creature sweepers and the loyalty of the walkers also helps preserve life totals on top of that. It makes for a slog of a game if you ask me to play against walker commanders and walkers.deck

I don't particularly think the ones I see spoiled are more or less problematic, I just don't like seeing them.

I'm pretty traditionalist. I don't much like Partners, I don't much like Planeswalker commanders. Regardless of power, they have a destabilizing effect on the format, for instance making creature removal less reliable. It's the same problem, albeit less developed current, as Modern faces, where threat diversity has drastically outpaced answers. I won't refuse to play against either unless they're just miserable, but I'd rather they weren't a thing.

My personal issue it that with partner you're getting the best of both worlds. Even if none of the individual partners are OP you're looking at adding a lot of flexibility if you can use a creature and a planeswalker.

And as quickly as I came up with Esior + Tymna, the deck turned out too strong for the group. Got in two test games. The first one didn't even feel like a nut draw or anything, but I assembled a solid combination of pump and the table got zerged turn six. The second one had me open a Bident of Thassa and some strong finishers, but the guys wised up and anything of note that I played got blown up on sight. Nevertheless, Tymna stuck and I still powered through to a turn eight win. Despite preemptively avoiding high densities of time magic or interaction, the deck still turned out too good. Bummer, it was a cool concept.

I still think the commander pairing is awesome though, and might toss the list up for posterity once Esior gets officially spoiled.

Obeka, Heartless Chronologist looks to be my pick so far as far as brewing.

Run all the lose at end of turn extra turn cards in Red; Final Fortune, Last Chance, Warrior's Oath. Glorious End to make one opponent skip the rest of their turn.

Makes it much harder for opponents to cast Cyclonic Rift not during their own turn as you can tap to may end the turn and of course most times people are going to choose not to have their permanents returned so will choose to end it while CR is on the stack.
In this respect it's hard for opponents to cast any type of advantages cards at instant speed. They are normally done at end of turn just before turn their turn, but with an untapped Obeka they are really forced into doing it during their own turns.

Pact of Negation is a little more fail safe.

Anything that triggers at the "beginning of end step" or "end of combat" can be negated.
Hand into play; Sneak Attack. Planebound Accomplice, Purphoros, Bronze-Blooded, Shifty Doppelganger
Graveyard recursion; Dawn of the Dead, Feldon of the Third Path, Sedris, the Traitor King, Whip of Erebos, Corpse Dance, Goryo's Vengeance, Shallow Grave.
Tokens; Flameshadow Conjuring, Mirror March, Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker, Saheeli Rai, Splinter Twin, Mirror Mockery, Blade of Selves.
Card draw; Psychic Vortex, Ideas Unbound, Sarkhan, the Dragonspeaker, Valakut Exploration.

Cascaaaaaaaade is one of my favorite mechanics, very glad to see it returning. Monarch is also another welcome return.

Encore looks sweet. There are a lot of ETB effects that see play, but significantly fewer death triggers. Should be interesting. It also makes board wipes less painful for creature-based decks, which is always nice.

I'd say that my favorite thing about these leaked cards so far is that none of them seem like bomby staples or autoincludes. I'm sure there will be some in the set, but avoiding power creep is a good thing.

A legendary Sultai durdle turtle? Amazing :o

Tevesh Szat sort of scares me. Still, not coming online until 5 mana does a lot to ameliorate my concerns though.

Thalisse looks sweet. Definitely want to give a shot in Teysa.

Happy to see Liesa - I've been expecting the black angel sister for a while. Some people are going to be disappointed ('bluh bluh orzhov lifegain bluh bluh') but I think she looks reasonable. 2 life per spell cast adds up quickly, and paying commander tax with it makes having a five mana commander much less painful.

I want Bladegriffin Prototype for Samut. Repeatable Vindicate is sweet, and diplomatic implications are always interesting.

#1 character I'm hoping for is Crucius the Mad though. We'll see if he gets a card.... Looks like a legendary sphinx has already been implied, so don't know if that would take the slot (Crucius is a planeswalker though).

Obeka certain is a odd commander and I love it. Might build it since like feather, i makes you rethink certain cards as you pointed out.

love the new Monarch enchantment but it seems pretty swingy. they're really cavalier with playing stuff for free lately AND the thing draws you an extra card a turn, ummmmm.

I'm hoping they reprint Sakashima's Student in this. it wasn't on the list or in 2XM and its price is crazy. I already bought a Planechase Anthology but foolishly traded the student away and I don't want another box..

Lots of nummy new adds for my decks (assuming my sources are accurate).
  • Teysa K: Thalisse looks great here. Toying with switching commanders to Tevesh + Tymna, but tbh they'll probably fit neatly into the 99 regardless. Maybe Elvish Dread Prince, too? (Still debating on adding Massacre Girl, though, so the prince may fall short too.)
  • Gargos: Court of Plenty gets a slot for sure. Also incentivizes me to add Regal Behemoth again.

Court of Plenty - Lurking Predators seems largely redundant now.

Thalisse, Dignified Medium - seems possible in Elenda, and I've always liked the idea of some kind of spirit deck.

Ich-Tehik, Scrap Splicer - sounds rather Phyrexian to me, artifacts is not common.

I like the elves, and hope we get an Abzan elf Commander that isn't weird legend tribal like whatever his face is.

Three Visits !!! - I want 8 regular and 4 foil please

[leak] tags are now live.

They provide a clear indication of the nature of the content behind the hidden text, allows those who don't want to see the information to avoid it, allows others to pick and choose on posts, and also offers a way for any user to opt into always seeing them without needing a click-to-show.

MTGNexus is still very much against leaks, especially of this caliber, but given how even the golden child websites are discussing these leaks, we fully understand that it's an inevitability that most will want to discuss them. We simply ask that you respect those who don't by using the new [leak] tag. <3

The turtle may be busted. But busted in a good way, rewarding build-around lists with explosive situation. Less busted than other sultai goodstuff commanders. Has synergy with Meandering Towershell too, but i don't think the synergy is good enough to ble playable

The green golem guy is a phyrexian with partner, hilarious. I wonder how many there will be.
